About the opportunity:
 
We are looking for a skilled Senior Compliance Manager to join our team.  In this role you will have the responsibility of ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, especially regarding employment and background checks. You will collaborate closely with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies to develop and execute effective compliance strategies, audits, and processes.
 
As an expert in employment and related data requirements, your role will be pivotal in crafting and implementing technology solutions that bolster compliance efforts. Key tasks include staying abreast of trends, emerging issues, and necessary remedial actions or enhancements to regulatory compliance within the company. You'll offer ongoing guidance on new business ventures, products, and matters related to employment and CRA (Consumer Reporting Agency) policies and governance. 

Collaborating Closely with Cross-Functional teams, you will:

    • Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures to ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
    • Conduct regular audits and assessments to gauge the success of compliance programs and controls.
    • Work with teams across KarmaCheck to drive remediation of compliance issues identified during assessments.
    • Monitor changes in laws and regulations related to background checks and update company policies accordingly.
    • Provide guidance and training to employees on compliance matters.
    • Investigate and respond to compliance issues, complaints, and violations.
    • Collaborate with legal, HR, and operations teams to address compliance-related challenges.
    • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to compliance activities.
    • Prepare and submit reports to management and regulatory authorities as required.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, ensuring timely and accurate responses to inquiries and requests for information.
    • Stay updated about industry trends and best practices in compliance management.

You’re a Great Addition If You Have:

    • Bachelor's degree in business administration, law, or a related field (Master's degree is a plus). 
    • 7+ years of experience in compliance management, preferably in the background check industry or a related field, such as healthcare staffing 
    • In-depth knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, such as Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidelines, and state-specific background check laws.
    • Experience building compliance at startups 
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in work.
    • You love connecting with people via video, phone, chat tools, and over-communicate to compensate for what remote/digital work can lack

    • The expected base compensation for this role is between X and Y for work performed in the United States. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include seniority level, experience level, transferable skills, education, location, business needs, training, and market demands. This range may be modified in the future
$160,000 - $185,000 a year
