Karuna is an early-stage venture-backed digital therapeutics company. Karuna Labs builds immersive virtual reality technology designed to address chronic pain by retraining the brain. Karuna’s evidence-based approach to chronic pain leverages patient education, physical therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and cognitive neuroscience to treat neuropathic pain conditions by resolving sensory motor incongruences and helping patients to overcome fear-avoidant behavior.

Karuna’s mission is to become a first line defense for chronic pain. We’re looking for deep generalists who are adept at building creative solutions to complex problems.

This position will be based in San Francisco, CA.


    • Coordinate different off-site research projects with academia, health plans, and healthcare providers
    • Prepare clinical communications and publications including manuscripts, white papers, abstracts and posters related to our products and overall clinical landscape
    • Apply for grants (SBIR, DARPA, Industry, and medical foundations)
    • Conduct educational webinars to key opinion leaders in the chronic pain industry
    • Assist with creating marketing materials and sales assets
    • Analyze data from clinical research trialsSupport quality management activitiesLead generation of health economics outcomes for Karuna products
    • Craft data strategy for publishing clinical outcomes
    • Develop, implements and monitors standards, procedures and processes to meet established clinical quality goals and regulatory requirements for licensure
    • Onsite trainings with the KarunaHOME and KarunaPRO products
    • Create classifying algorithms for chronic pain conditions
    • Work with engineering team to implement reporting and classification algorithms
    • Translate iPython notebook machine learning code to Unity virtual reality application

Minimum Qualifications

    • (3+) yrs experience working in biomedical informatics, statistics, neuroscience, or related fieldFormal biomedical informatics or clinical informatics fellowship training, or equivalent experience
    • Formal training in scientific methods, data analysis and methods
    • Experience with implementation of clinical technology for telehealth, remote monitoring, and secure messaging
    • Experience with analyzing large biomedical outcomes dataset
    • First authorship on research studies
    • Experience working with multidisciplinary software teams
    • Experience writing grants
    • Excellent collaboration and team building skills

    • Experience with designing large multisite randomized control trials (RCTs)
