Kernel is building state-of-the-art hardware for acquiring high-quality brain signal data. Our world-class team of neuroscientists, engineers, and physicists have developed hardware that can successfully acquire data non-invasively at a much lower cost and in a much more open environment compared to what is currently available. By overcoming these two major limitations that are currently holding back the progress of understanding the brain, we can enable Neuroscience as a Service (NaaS)--neuroscience studies at the touch of a button. 

We are looking for qualified, professional and motivated individuals with corporate experience to join our security team. Reporting directly to the Security Manager and generally to the Operations Manager, and as part of the operations team, the Kernel Security Officer is responsible for protecting and safeguarding our employees, property and assets. This position requires a service-oriented individual with discretion and good judgement, as well as the ability to work with limited supervision. The ideal candidate will inspire respect and authority as well as possess a high level of observation. Note: This position will start on July 1, 2022


    • Secure premises and personnel by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment, inspecting buildings, and parking areas
    • Prevent unapproved or unlawful entry into the facility
    • Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities
    • Ensure the security, safety, and well-being of all personnel, visitors, and the premises
    • Remain in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
    • Respond to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to employees and guests
    • Ability to react to emergencies and talk down person(s) that may display unruly and or violent acts
    • Report safety hazards, malfunctioning equipment, and other such matters to appropriate personnel
    • Participate in all security training, including but not limited to drills, sessions, courses, updates, and certifications; training areas may include general security and safety, fire, earthquake, evacuation, active shooter, first aid, and other emergencies
    • Ability to patrol in inclement weather
    • Able to sit/stand for extended periods


    • High School Diploma or GED
    • At least 5+ years of related experience
    • Current California driver's license and either current California state guard card or California state proprietary guard card required
    • High level of friendly customer service
    • Professional appearance
    • Computer Literacy, including use of MacBook Pro, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, internet-based applications, security tour systems, and reporting systems. Must also have the ability to navigate and use the different functions of the surveillance system. Other software may also be deployed as necessary to support job functions


    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write reports, to effectively present information, and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
    • Ability to solve practical problems and make good decisions in dealing with a variety of unexpected or changing variables in situations that may be different from those documented in standard procedures
    • Ability to understand and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
