Kernel is bringing neuro measurement mainstream. We have built the next generation non-invasive brain interface. From the photon through machine learning, we are a close-knit, full-stack team that thrives on pushing the limits. Join us on this epic journey as we strive to usher in a new era of understanding ourselves, each other and the future of our shared existence.

We are looking for a talented applied physicist to support our engineers and scientists in translating technologies from prototype to production release. The ideal candidate will design, build, run, and analyze data from experiments.  You will also test and characterize various parts and assemblies including sensor and optical components .

    • Responsible for supporting hardware R&D as well as test and characterization of prototype optical and electrical systems
    • Develop testing processes, and perform testing and validation of designs and basic physics/optical modeling
    • Build and maintain automated benchtop test systems
    • Work in a cross-functional environment, supporting projects involving team members from neuroscience, mechanical, software, and electrical engineering
    • Support fast-moving projects that vary in scope

    • B.S. in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited institution
    • Proficiency using scripting languages for data analysis and data acquisition
    • Demonstrated experience with equipment for characterization of electronic, thermal, and optical components/assemblies: oscilloscopes, multimeters, photodiodes, thermoresistors, etc
    • Experience acquiring and analyzing data to solve technical problems
    • Great communication skills for cross-functional coordination of projects

    • Experience working with high-precision sensors, optical assemblies or/and electronics
    • Proficiency in using Python for scripting and test automation
    • 1-3 years' research experience in a lab (industry experience a plus)
