Purpose of Role
Responsible for managing medium to large IT programmes to budget, schedule, and quality. Working with virtual teams across various departments and geographies, this role demands timely and effective communications with executive programme sponsors, internal functional leaders, technical specialists, and customers (as appropriate) across concurrent programmes. Working closely with customers, managing their expectations, and ensuring that the right job is completed and done well. Whilst this role is primarily focused on internal change where the main aim is to lead the programme team and colleagues to be successful, this will also support our customers to be successful.
The Programme Manager should have a sharp business mind and a proven ability to strategize and implement high-level programme initiatives. The ideal candidate will be an excellent leader and will have experience in managing staff of different disciplines to produce results in a timely manner. The goal is to ensure that all programmes deliver the desirable outcome to our organization. The successful candidate must be able to make frequent trade-offs between business targets and projects and/or operational performance.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
· Work closely with programme sponsor to determine project scope and vision.
· Collaborate with programme sponsor, cross-functional teams, and assigned project managers to plan and develop scope, deliverables, required resources, work plan, budget, and timing for new initiatives.
· Organize and coordinate programmes and provide strategic guidance to teams and project managers.
· Develop new programmes to support the strategic direction of the organization.
Operational Management:
· Clearly identify programme stakeholders and keep them abreast and engaged
· Assume responsibility for the programme’s people and vendors
· Manage programme and project teams for optimal return on investment; coordinate and delegate cross-project initiatives
· Resolve projects’ higher scope issues
· Prepare reports for programme directors
· Monitor the outputs and outcomes of a programme's component activities and ensure that the programme adapts appropriately to them.
· Coordinate the management of complex issues that may arise as programmes seek to deliver benefits.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
· Defining the scope, impact, resources, and outcomes of the project, and gaining sponsor and internal customer agreement to these.
· Maintain the accuracy and integrity of project plans to ensure status is up to date.
· Overall project setup, building out a project plan and successful execution of plans.
· Proactively identify and manage risks, issues, and actions, driving to timely closure.
· Provide progress reports and metrics dashboard for executive level transparency.
· Manage all stakeholder communication across all areas of the business, whether with board-level stakeholders or technical teams.
· Manage change control process to ensure project plan is aligned with portfolio expectations.
· Using appropriate standards, systems, resources, tools, and techniques in all project management activities.
· Maintaining and controlling project documentation and systems during and on completion of the project.
· Closing projects when outcomes are achieved, and reviewing lessons learned.
Skills & Experience
Cloud Infrastructure & Architecture
· Deep understanding of AWS cloud platform
· Familiarity with cloud-native services, especially EC2, EKS and related automation/configuration.
· Experience with cloud networking, security groups, and IAM policies is essential
Cloud Security & Compliance
· Knowledge of cloud security frameworks and best practices (e.g., NIST, CIS benchmarks).
· Ability to manage data protection, identity and access management, and compliance with regulations like GDPR.
DevOps & Automation
· Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines, Terraform and automated testing.
· Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., CloudWatch and New Relic)
Migration & Integration Expertise
· Experience with cloud migration strategies in complex environments, including lift-and-shift, re-platforming, and refactoring.
· Understanding of legacy system integration and data migration processes
Technical Fluency Across Domains
· Exposure to infrastructure, networking, end-user compute, application development, and database technologies (e.g., Oracle to Postgres transitions)
· Ability to engage with engineers and architects on technical topics and translate them for business stakeholders
Project & Programme Management
· Proven experience in a cloud migration programme management role
· Strong command of tools like JIRA, Confluence, MS Office, MS Project or similar for planning and tracking
· Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, and SAFe methodologies
· Thorough understanding of project/programme management techniques and methods
