About Kinsa

We are leading the charge in the fight against COVID-19, and helping ensure we get ahead of the next public health crisis. Our real-time map of illness has been featured in the New York Times, on Rachel Maddow, CNBC, FOX News, MSNBC, Bloomberg, The Economist, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah etc. Turn on the TV, open the paper…we are making headlines bringing our data to the fight. We’ve done this by successfully transforming the first device you grab when sickness strikes – the thermometer – into a sensor to detect when and where illness is rising, and communicate with those who have just fallen ill.

The Role

    • As our Head of People, you will foster a strong culture that helps our people succeed and thrive, while creating the systems that help us scale exceptional performance. We're looking for somebody with proven success in early- to mid-stage startups who is excited by the opportunity to flex between strategic and tactical responsibilities on a daily basis. You will work directly with our CEO and leadership team, and over time build a small internal team to bring your vision and recommendations to life. 
    • Above all, as Kinsa’s Head of People you will be responsible for recruiting people that reflect our core values and target behaviors, and continuously aligning team members with these values and behaviors. As part of this role, you will also be responsible for all HR operations, including culture and employee engagement, diversity, equity & inclusion initiatives, performance management strategy, learning and development, compensation and benefits, and talent acquisition.

What You Will Do

    • Leadership - Partner with business leaders to build and support happy, high-performing teams aligned with Kinsa’s business strategy; and Over time, you will build and motivate a small team to deliver a complete human resources capability that can scale as the company grows.
    • Culture and Employee Engagement - Support, embody and develop a culture that reinforces our mission and values, sustains morale, encourages 360 feedback and continuous improvement, embraces and is resilient to growth, and attracts incredible new talent; Champion a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace and design and implement practices to support their achievement, especially in a fully-remote environment; and Monitor and interpret trends and metrics around employee engagement and satisfaction, and create strategies for improvements.
    • Coaching & Talent Development - Act as a trusted advisor to senior and junior members of the team to increase team effectiveness; Review and improve performance management approaches to develop and retain existing staff; and Create individual (e.g. coaching opportunities and feedback) and group solutions (e.g. training programs) to improve capabilities at all levels of the organization.
    • Recruitment - In partnership with other business leaders, design and deploy strategies, tactics, and tools to attract and recruit exceptional talent; Strengthen relationships with third parties that extend Kinsa’s reach and access to a diverse and qualified talent pool; and Support hiring managers to effectively onboard and integrate new hires
    • Human Resources - Manage our external HR PEO vendor (TriNet); Serve as internal HR point of contact for employee relations and appropriately manage and resolve complex HR issues; and Evolve and improve Kinsa’s compensation and benefits strategies to reflect current market trends and consistency across the organization

About You

    • You have a strong desire to use your skills to have a positive impact on people — we are a mission-first company​​
    • 8+ years of experience in Human Resources or People Operations, including experience as a people leader in an early to mid-stage startup
    • You thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and have an ability to create structure out of ambiguity
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Sophisticated coaching and problem-solving skills
