Kinsa is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Portland, Oregon team. This is an opportunity to help design, build, & scale our data pipelines, data warehouse, and machine learning infrastructure. You will be a key contributor in designing and building our data platform and delivering robust data pipelines.

Kinsa was founded with a mission to stop illness from spreading by knowing where and when it starts. Our mission has never been more important or more relevant than it is right now. We are leading the charge in the fight against COVID-19. Our real-time map of illness has been featured in the New York Times, on Rachel Maddow, CNBC, FOX News, The Economist, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah etc.  Turn on the TV, open the paper… We are making headlines bringing our data to the fight. We’ve done this by successfully transforming the first device you grab when sickness strikes - the thermometer - into a sensor to detect when and where illness is rising, and communicate with those who have just fallen ill.

You’re good at:

    • Designing, building, and deploying efficient data pipelines.
    • Intelligently designing and implementing our data architecture.
    • Implementing inclusive data quality checks.
    • Providing data-driven insights.
    • Ensuring scalability.
    • Meeting data privacy and data security standards.
    • Securely source external data from multiple partners

You have:

    • 5+ years of experience in data engineering building data warehouses and data pipelines.
    • Experience with AWS (EC2, S3, EFS, RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda, Redshift, Kinesis)
    • Successfully built large scale, data driven applications including elements like real-time streaming, batch data aggregation, data modeling, data cleaning, anomaly detection and bulk ingestion.
    • Experience designing and writing robust ETL jobs and pipelines (Airflow, Luigi).
    • Strong software development skills at least one of the following: (Python, Java, Scala). Most of our stack is now in Python.
    • Experience with distributed data processing systems (e.g., Dask, Spark).
    • A passion for problem solving and providing solutions.
    • Extensive experience with SQL.
