KIPP LA Schools is a non-profit organization that operates free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools serving students in Compton, South, Southeast, and East Los Angeles. KIPP LA currently operates 17 schools and serves approximately 7,200 students. Our team is expanding rapidly; over the next five years, we will more than double the number of students we serve.

The Special Education (Resource Specialist Program) Teacher plans, implements, and reflects upon classroom instruction in order to realize the mission of the school.

The Opportunity

    • Provide individualized instruction and support to students with special needs
    • Support general education teachers and administrators to implement appropriate strategies to meet the needs of students with IEPs
    • Develop related goals and objectives and recommend policies, planning, and implementation by working with school staff to meet the needs of students with special needs.
    • Manage compliance of accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs in the general education classroom and during Special Education service time
    • Provide accommodated testing conditions for classroom and standardized testing and administer academic assessments
    • Develop and implement appropriate behavior management techniques for students with special needs
    • Ensure student achievement and progress towards IEP goals and complete progress reports in accordance with district guidelines
    • Create and maintain Special Education documentation as required by federal, state, and district regulations
    • Complete other duties/projects assigned by Director of Special Education

The Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning required
    • Possession of a valid preliminary or clear Education Specialist credential with Autism Authorization preferred
    • 2 years of lead teaching experience in Special Education preferred

**Note: If selected to move on in the process, you will be asked to submit a 10 minute teaching video of a small group lesson at least 48 hours before your on-site interview. We strongly recommend that you make a teaching video as soon as possible if you don’t already have one. Lesson Criteria: Topic of your choice in a core content area (math/literacy and Common Core aligned). You will be asked to include the lesson plan.
