KIPP SoCal Public Schools is a network of 20 high-performing, college-preparatory public charter schools. We educate more than 9,000 students in grades pre-K through eighth in the greater Los Angeles area and San Diego. Additionally, we support approximately 5,100 alumni on their journey to and through high school and college.

You are a culture builder with a strong track record in managing change and bringing underrepresented voices to the table to create anti-racist annual goals and accountability measures. The Chief Talent & Equity Officer (CTEO) will play a senior leadership role ensuring that KIPP SoCal designs and implements a vision for the Talent teams at KIPP SoCal Public Schools. The CTEO will be highly skilled at integrating KIPP SoCal’s diversity, equity and inclusion beliefs and values throughout the organization through innovative and community responsive practices that broaden and advance the student and team member experience.

Reporting to the CEO and directly managing three Director level roles (Director of Talent Acquisition, Director of Learning and Development, and Director of HR Operations), the CTEO will lead work in the following areas:

Leading Anti-Racism Work

    • Create a robust roadmap that aligns our diversity, equity and inclusion goals with our outcomes based upon KIPP SoCal’s core values
    • Serve as true culture builder and carrier; helping KIPP SoCal to define and realize their optimal culture tied to their commitment to excellence, diversity, and inclusivity
    • Partner with Director of Marketing to ensure compelling outreach efforts to diverse pools of candidates that closely mirror our student population, school communities, and position KIPP SoCal as an 'employer of choice' for strong candidates
    • Plan, design and implement diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and programs that train the organization to live up to KIPP SoCal’s core values

Recruitment & Retention

    • Partner with the Director of Talent Acquisition to establish an overarching vision for talent acquisition and a best-in-class recruitment strategy that reflects our DEI goals
    • Partner with Director of Marketing to ensure compelling outreach efforts to diverse pools of candidates that closely mirror our student population, school communities, and position KIPP SoCal as an 'employer of choice' for strong candidates
    • Advise on the recruitment and selection process and tools to support effective and equitable hiring across the organization
    • Partner with the Director of HR to refine the organization's onboarding program to ensure new hires have a smooth and productive initial experience
    • Analyze retention data and utilize insights to drive retention of high-performing team members through rewards, recognition, and other data-informed incentives

Professional Development & Performance Management

    • Establish a cohesive vision for career pathing, succession, and workforce planning at KIPP SoCal that is equitable and aligned to our education as liberation beliefs
    • Design KIPP SoCal's professional development, promotion, and retention philosophy, factoring in key elements such as rewards, recognition, engagement, and satisfaction
    • Develop a robust performance management strategy tied to quantitative and qualitative organizational goals, building upon the organization's current annual review process

Human Resources Operations

    • Work closely with the CEO and CFO to ensure KIPP SoCal's compliance with federal, state, and local laws
    • Stay abreast of HR law/policy trends that could impact KIPP SoCal's ability to execute on its mission and growth plan. Propose and implement solutions to mitigate potential threats
    • Develop differentiated licensure support in partnership with the credentialing team, educators, school leaders, and external agencies to comply with state laws overall strengthening teacher retention

You'll Be Qualified If You Have

    • 10+ years of professional experience, including including 4+ years in a senior leadership role
    • Deep knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion with a track record of dismantling systemic structures that are rooted in anti-blackness, white dominance, white advantage and racism
    • Demonstrated commitment to disrupting systems of inequity in the workplace, a willingness to question the status quo and provide strategic direction for KIPP SoCal to reach its DEI goals
    • Excellent relationship building skills with a passion for bringing along leaders to solve complex organizational challenges
    • Exceptional people management skills; holds high standards while coaching and developing others; empowers team members to proactively and creatively solve problems
