Here at Kittyhawk in Palo Alto, we are developing ground breaking all-electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) aircraft.  Project Heaviside is Kittyhawk’s latest high-performance electric VTOL vehicle. It is designed to be fast, small, and exceedingly quiet, taking advantage of new possibilities to free people from traffic. 

The Prototype Fabrication Technician is responsible for turning new hardware and tooling designs for Kittyhawk’s latest high-performance electric VTOL vehicle into reality.  You will perform the initial build of new hardware and document the process, forming the foundation of future work instructions.  You will also help Manufacturing Engineering with the design and fabrication of tools, jigs, and fixtures.

Within 1 months you will:

    • Assemble new hardware with limited instruction
    • Document the build process, describing what tools to use and, what data to capture
    • Work with engineering to turn that document into formal work instructions

Within 3 months you will:

    • Identify opportunities where custom tooling would improve the process

Within 6 months you will:

    • Drive safety improvements in the shop. Always follow safety protocol and communicate all safety concerns.
    • Support and manage continuous improvement activities in safety, environmental, quality, cost, efficiency, and productivity objectives

Requirements:

    • High School degree (or equivalent experience) with 4-6 years of related work experience OR
    • AA or Technical Trade Degree with 2-4 years of related work experience
    • Proficient in drilling, riveting, installation of related hardware, usage of precision instruments, and utilization of hand tools to perform these tasks
    • The ability to read and understand work orders, blueprints, and specifications
    • Familiar with paste/secondary bonded structure
    • Knowledge of metal fabrication machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
    • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
    • Must be able to lift 40 lbs
    • Work may involve repetitive arm/wrist motions
    • Must be able to stand for 8 hours
    • Proficient use of Google Docs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Desired:

    • Experience operating machine shop and/or sheet metal forming equipment
    • Experience with prepreg and wet layup composite fabrication
    • Experience working in an NPI or R&D setting
    • Welding experience (preferably TiG)
    • 5+ years working on a manufacturing line working with disassembly/assembly and troubleshooting
