Kitware, Inc. is actively seeking Computer Vision Research Interns to join our Computer Vision Team. Aligned with Kitware’s mission to conduct software R&D with positive social impact through improving environmental monitoring, security, energy and healthcare, Kitware conducts cutting-edge research in computer vision and has extensive expertise in developing robust solutions for challenging problems involving complex real-world data. Interns will be able to explore their own ideas to address challenging real-world computer vision problems, and will be encouraged to publish the results of their work in academic papers submitted to premier conferences. In addition, interns can also focus on contributing high-quality software to the KWIVER platform (http://www.kwiver.org/), an exciting, open source, and versatile platform for computer vision research and development.
Algorithms: Deep learning and other computer vision methods for object detection, change detection, scene classification, event/activity recognition, 3D reconstruction from aerial imagery, video/image understanding, video/image search, and indexing, etc.
Data: Images and videos from ground, handheld, aerial, or satellite cameras.
Infrastructure: Opportunity to work on deep learning libraries like Caffe, PyTorch or Tensorflow; large-scale computer vision framework on the cloud; or performance optimization using GPUs, parallel computing, or embedded devices such as NVIDIA’s TX2.
- Education: Ph.D. students in related fields, including computer vision, machine learning, multimedia, signal processing, imaging science, and applied mathematics.
- Background: Knowledge and experience in computer vision, machine learning, deep learning (Caffe, PyTorch, Tensorflow, etc.), remote sensing or related areas.
- Programming Languages: Proficiency in Python or C/C++.
- Duration of internship: 40 hours a week; a minimum of 10 weeks
Kitware’s Computer Vision group is distributed between our two offices in Clifton Park near Albany, NY, and Carrboro near Chapel Hill, NC. Interns at the Clifton Park headquarters will enjoy visiting beautiful and vibrant areas including the Adirondack Mountains, entertaining Lake George region, and historic Saratoga Springs. There are numerous outdoor music concerts and festivals during summer in the area. Compensation is competitive and work schedules are flexible within an open atmosphere which encourages collaboration.
