We are currently looking to grow our Software Engineering teams to satisfy the company’s ever increasing need for developing next-generation products that improve our consumers and merchants experiences.
Klarna’s software engineers develop the next-generation products that change how our consumers and merchants interact with each other. Our products handle our customers money and information at massive scale, and extend well beyond online payments. We need our engineers to understand our customers, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

What you will do
- Work on a specific problem space critical to Klarna’s current needs with opportunities to switch teams as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of Java-based backend services, ensuring high performance, reliability, and scalability
- Work closely with cloud technologies, with a preference for AWS, to develop and deploy our services
- Engage in the full project lifecycle – from conception to deployment and beyond, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to spec
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Klarna to align on integration strategies and optimize system architecture
- Drive an engineering culture within the team, emphasizing innovation, quality, and continuous improvement
- Proactively identify potential issues in our distributed and financial systems before they arise
- Work in small autonomous teams with short release cycles
You should have
- Proficient in Java and Spring Boot, with hands-on experience in backend development
- Experience in PostgreSQL
- Experience in Architecting and building system
- Experienced with cloud technologies, especially AWS
- Skilled in distributed and financial systems, capable of anticipating and mitigating issues preemptively
- Independent, able to manage projects end-to-end and lead people effectively
- A strong communicator, capable of interfacing with other teams and domains
- Previously led a team, with a track record of building positive engineering cultures
- Working proficiency and communication skills in verbal and written English
You might also have
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science or a related discipline
- Knowledgeable in JavaScript and Node.js
- Experience in leading a diverse team of engineers across multiple locations
- A visionary approach to anticipating the future needs of the team and the role
