Data Science /
On our path to becoming the world’s favorite way to shop, we’re assembling an unparalleled global talent network, accelerating individual careers, and disrupting entire industries. We are on a mission to liberate humanity from all the meaningless time spent managing their purchases and finances, so they can do more of what they love. We’re in search of global talent eager to embrace our atmosphere and defy their own expectations.
We're looking for Senior Data Scientists with risk modeling experience, coupled with either a very strong Engineering background, or alternatively a track record of success within Fintech or Financial Services.
Lending is one of Klarna's main business activities, and it is therefore critical that Klarna's credit risk and fraud prevention strategies are as robust as possible. As a Senior Data Scientist in a risk modeling team, your primary focus will be on the development, validation, and deployment of the machine learning models and systems that power this part of Klarna's business. These roles are highly dynamic and central to Klarna's success, and therefore you will also support or lead various workstreams within Engineering and Data Science.
Risk Modeling at Klarna truly is one of the most exciting and challenging opportunities for a Data Scientist to take on. Risk Modeling represents a complex problem space, and while we are at the forefront in both European and North American markets, there is a continuous need to further innovate our technologies and data, as our business is continually changing and growing, and always presenting new problems for Data Scientists to solve. Multiple opportunities exist, and while our working environment is fully flexible, our wider Data Science communities are physically based in Stockholm and Berlin.
- Several years of experience working in either Financial Services, Fintech, or at a start-up
- Very proficient in predictive model development, using machine learning techniques such as GBDTs
- Very proficient in data processing and analysis, using tools such as Pandas, Numpy, and SQL
- Familiar with the concepts behind cloud computing infrastructures, such as AWS.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, such as CXOs.
- A deep understanding of the theoretical foundations behind classical and recent machine learning models and algorithms, such as generalized linear models, random forests, ensemble methods, and deep neural networks.
Unfortunately we cannot offer relocation for this role and can only consider candidates currently based in Sweden or Germany.

We genuinely believe in the power of regular face-to-face interactions in building close connections with our teams, but we also strongly believe people can work effectively remotely. This means that combining both is the key to success.
At Klarna, You can choose between working from the office, remotely within your employment country, or even outside of it for up to 20 working days per year. Flex it up!
