Business Intelligence Analyst (Data Architecture & Power BI Developer)
Role Overview:
The Business Intelligence Analyst plays a critical role in transforming raw data into actionable insights for business decision-making. This multifaceted professional combines data architecture skills, Power BI proficiency, and a deep understanding of ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) processes. They collaborate with stakeholders to translate complex data into meaningful visualizations and reports, driving strategic initiatives across the organization.
Job Description
· Data Architecture:
o Design, implement and maintain efficient data models, databases, and data pipelines.
o Optimize data storage, retrieval, and performance.
o Ensure data quality, consistency, and security.
· Power BI Development:
o Create interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI.
o Connect to various data sources (on-premises, cloud, databases, APIs).
o Implement data transformations, calculations, and custom measures.
o Leverage DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) for advanced analytics.
o Maintain and optimize existing Power BI solutions, ensuring data accuracy and performance
· ELT Fundamentals:
o Extract data from diverse sources (e.g., SQL databases, Excel, APIs).
o Load data into staging areas or data warehouses.
o Transform data using ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes primarily with Power Query M.
o Understand data lineage and lineage tracking.
· Business Insights:
o Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand requirements.
o Translate complex business questions into data-driven solutions.
o Identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in data.
o Present findings to non-technical audiences effectively.
· Web Service Integration:
o Utilize Power BI web service components for sharing and collaboration.
o Publish reports to Power BI Service and configure data refresh schedules.
o Embed Power BI reports in O365 applications or SharePoint.
· Continuous Learning:
o Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and new Power BI features.
o Explore emerging technologies related to data visualization and analytics.
Qualifications:
· Proven experience with Power BI Desktop and Service.
· Expertise in Power Query M formula language for data transformation.
· In-depth knowledge of DAX for creating complex calculations and measures.
· Strong experience in developing dataflows and semantic models.
· Ability to translate business requirements into effective Power BI dashboards and reports.
· Familiarity with data visualization best practices.
· Strong analytical mindset, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
· Excellent communication skills to bridge the gap between technical and business teams.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
· 2+ years of hands-on experience with Power BI development, data architecture, ETL processes, and database design.
