Austin Associates is seeking a Tax Accountant to join their collaborative, community focused team to provide expert accounting services. Employees can be based in their Auburn, Norway or Skowhegan, Maine offices with flexible work arrangements.
Requirements:
- Bachelors’ degree in Accounting, CPA preferred. Candidates actively pursuing CPA certification will be considered.
- 3+ years of experience in tax accounting or related specialty required.
- Prior experience working in a public accounting firm preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws, compliance and regulations.
- Proficiency in tax preparation, depreciation, tax research software.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Experience managing multiple client engagements efficiently in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
- Effective communication skills and ability to explain tax matters clearly.

Responsibilities:
- Prepare federal, state and local individual, business, fiduciary and other tax returns and projections in accordance with firm and professional standards as directed by engagement leaders.
- Assist in the development and implementation of tax strategies that align with our clients’ unique needs and minimize tax liabilities.
- Continuously develop technical competencies and stay current on changes in tax laws and regulations.
- Conduct tax research and recommend solutions tailored to meet our clients’ needs.
- Mentor and guide entry level tax accountants, providing training and support as needed.
- Assist in responding to IRS and state notices, inquiries, and audits.
- Build strong relationships by effectively communicating with clients and colleagues.
