Spang Builders, Inc. has an exciting opportunity available for a Staff Accountant to join our well-established, high-end residential construction company based in Kennebunkport, Maine.
Spang Builders, Inc./ Hazelwood Handyman, Inc. are small, family-owned construction companies owned and operated by Timothy Spang. Known for customer service and quality finished products, we have cultivated an unmatched reputation for building beautiful custom homes in Southern Maine.
Reporting to the CFO, the Staff Accountant is responsible for managing both companies’ complete accounting cycle and handling all financial transactions from day-to-day bookkeeping and payroll to preparing financial statements. This role requires proficiency in accounting software and strong attention to detail to ensure financial records are accurate, compliant, and support the organization's overall financial health.

Requirements of the Staff Accountant:
- Degree in Accounting, or equivalent experience, preferred
- Knowledge of GAAP accounting principles
- Experience with Intuit QuickBooks, Microsoft Office products, Excel and BuilderTrend or similar software preferred
- Fast and accurate typing/data entry skills
- High level of attention to detail
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Positive attitude and amiable phone etiquette
Responsibilities of the Staff Accountant:
- All tasks are completed in BuilderTrend, QuickBooks or Microsoft Office Suite of products.
- Manage companies’ complete accounting cycle
- Process 401k
- AP / AR – process invoices, pay bills, collect payments
- Bank & Ledger Reconciliation – reconcile bank/credit card statements and accuracy of general ledger
- Payroll Processing – manage accuracy of payroll, timely tax payments and filings
- Perform month-end closing procedures
- Provide documentation support and assistance with internal and external audits
- Data entry and financial analysis
- Maintain up-to-date vendor information
- Assist with projects in collaboration with other team members
- Answering phones and fielding customer inquiries and requests
- Oversee other administrative positions within companies
