Director, Human Resources and Operations
Maine (remote/hybrid position; however, must live in Maine or be in the process of relocating to Maine)
Maine Connectivity Authority is seeking a Director, Human Resources and Operations, who will lead the organization’s human resources functions while also supporting broader operational needs. The primary responsibilities of this role will be to manage and strengthen end-to-end HR systems and processes and ensure that core HR functions are executed effectively. This role will also provide oversight for internal operations such as event planning, staff communications, administration of IT systems and general project management support.
Requirements of the Director, Human Resources and Operations:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
- 7+ years of progressively responsible HR experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated ability to improve systems and processes.
- Comfort with engaging in hard conversations, delivering feedback, and being clear about expectations and policies in a manner that balances compassion and accountability.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or HRCI certification.
- Project Management certification (e.g., PMP, CAPM) or Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt desirable.
- Training or certification in HRIS systems/software (e.g., NetSuite, CultureAmp, Traliant) a plus.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to see the big picture while implementing continuous improvement programs and treating employees with respect every step of the way.
- Highly organized and able to create an organized and easy-to-follow system for others.
- Attendance and participation in frequent meetings (internal, external and blended). *Attendance may be virtual as needed, with in-person meetings to be determined.
Benefits of the Job:
- Annual pay in the range of $132,000 – 162,000

Responsibilities of the Director, Human Resources and Operations:
- Manage and continuously improve the implantation of HR systems and processes.
- Maintain an overall assessment of total HR health, including needs, responsibilities, and projects.
- Coordinate and oversee external vendors, as necessary, for specific HR responsibilities such as benefits, leave requests, staff training and compliance, compensation strategy and lifecycle administration, and other HR functions.
- Lead recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws and best practices.
- Develop and maintain performance management and professional development systems.
- Participate in and contribute to an organizational culture working group convened to recommend specific, actionable steps that strengthen team culture and performance; and take ownership of resulting action steps as relevant and appropriate.
- Oversee operational systems, including office administration, internal communications, and event coordination.
- Collaborate with leadership to improve organizational processes, workflows, and resource allocation.
