Crooker Construction / Construction Assistant Controller/ Topsham, Maine
Crooker Construction is seeking an Assistant Controller, to be based in the Topsham, Maine location. The Construction Assistant Controller will report to the Controller and will be responsible for overseeing and directing the daily accounting operations of the company.
Requirements of the Construction Assistant Controller:
- 10+ years of working as an accountant or in an equivalent/higher role.
- Able to work year-round, Monday – Friday 8am- 4:30pm, in office
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to produceaccurate work while meeting deadlines
- Solid accounting skills
- Strong organization, and both verbal and written communication skills
- Detail oriented and accurate
- Strong work ethic
- Experience using Trimble VISTA (Viewpoint) or another enterprise resource planning (ERP), program is preferred.
- Experience using JWS/APEX is a plus
- Experience using SAGE Depreciation Network software is a plus
- Knowledge of certified payroll reporting is a plus
- Previous construction accounting experience preferred

Responsibilities of the Construction Assistant Controller:
- Maintaining a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implementing a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Certified payroll oversight.
- Job costing entries.
- Plan, organize and manage all activities of the general accounting function that includes accounts payable, billing, credit/collection, purchasing, inventory and payroll.
- Develop skills of staff, provide growth opportunity, performance reviews, and coaching/training as needed.
- Support the process of ensuring timely and accurate financial statements while maintaining confidentiality of company dealings.
- Responsible for all supporting schedules that flow to the financial statement.
- Oversee timely and accurate reporting related to costing, inventory, and production metrics.
- Collaborate with various internal departments on financial matters such as costing, budgets and reporting.
- Maintain updated and current industry knowledge and awareness of trends, changes, and legal requirements in the industry.
- Assist with policy and procedure development for existing and future initiatives and projects.
