Chest Medicine Associates is seeking an Office Nurse, to be based in the South Portland office. This position is full-time, Monday-Friday, with no overnight or weekend coverage.

Requirements of the Office Nurse:

    • Bachelor’s degree required. 
    • Registered Nurse (RN) with active and unrestricted Maine license.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing practices and standards.
    • Two (2) years of experience in a medical office practice/clinic or urgent care preferred.
    • Current American Heart Association-issued Healthcare Provider BLS certification.
    • Strong patient assessment and telephone skills.
    • Solid interpersonal and communication skills for effective and tactful interactions with patients, families, physicians, and colleagues.
    • Flexibility to adapt to changing demands or stressful circumstances.
    • Ability to manage time, prioritize and multi-task.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Experience working with electronic health records and Microsoft Office applications.
    • Ability to work onsite M-F in South Portland, Maine

Responsibilities of the Office Nurse:

    • Provides clinical and administrative support for physicians and advanced practice providers to ensure exceptional quality and efficient patient care.
    • Acts as a liaison between physicians/advanced practice providers and patients to coordinate care.
    • Collaborates with medical assistants and rooming technicians to prioritize clinical tasks for optimally efficient patient flow.
    • Assists with training and competency verification of medical assistant staff.
    • Participates in rooming of patients, obtaining vital signs, and completing medication reconciliation.
    • Participates in answering the clinical phone line, performs telephone triage as needed, conveys messages between our physicians/APPs and patients or other healthcare providers, and assists pharmacies and DME vendors.
    • Responds to patients’ telephone requests and portal messages courteously, promptly, appropriately, and effectively.
    • Communicates abnormal test results and treatment plan to patients as outlined by the physician/APP and/or protocols.
    • Obtains prior authorization requests for medications and imaging.
    • Processes prescription refill requests.
    • Performs pulse oximetry testing during ambulation, nebulizer treatments, and other medical procedures.
    • Educates patients.
    • Performs medication injections as ordered.
    • Coordinates care with other healthcare providers and DME vendors.
    • Maintains cleanliness of exam rooms between patients and ensures supplies are stocked. 
    • Protects patients and employees by ensuring adherence to infection control policies and protocols.
    • Recognizes and responds appropriately to emergency situations.
    • Complies with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
    • Other duties as assigned.
