The Carbon Specialist (Climate Operations) will be a key member of the Climate team, leading field research operations for carbon projects in Kenya & Rwanda. This role is essential for the planning, execution, and supervision of on-ground research studies required for monitoring, reporting, and verifying carbon emissions reductions from KOKO’s clean cooking systems. You will ensure that field studies are designed and implemented in accordance with the requirements of international carbon crediting methodologies and audit agencies. The role will report into the global Climate team and collaborate closely with local operations and research partners.
What You Will Do
- Single-handedly designing and driving registration cycles for new carbon projects
- Collaborating with the Issuance Cycle team to lead end-to-end management of renewal cycles for existing projects
- Assist in planning and implementing the carbon credit issuance cycle for all active projects.
- Design and collaborate with local teams to execute baseline field studies required for carbon methodology compliance.
- Assist in implementing and managing annual fuel consumption studies (e.g. Kitchen Performance Tests) and coordinate with third-party audit agencies for on-site verifications.
- Write analytical research reports and field documentation to support carbon registration and issuance cycles.
- Support the onboarding and training of local field teams and enumerators.
- Designing and Conducting quality check processes to ensure correctness and reliability of the sampling and collected data
- Ensure appropriate management of the records and documents related to all research activities
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure effective project execution and alignment with business objectives.
The key objective of this role is to ensure smooth and compliant management of carbon projects that underpins KOKO Networks’ carbon credit revenue streams. This role also drives regulatory risk assessment and strategic planning to adapt to the evolving carbon market landscape. What You Will Bring
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Environmental Engineering, Climate Change, Renewable Energy, or related field.
- 4+ years of experience in leading and independently managing carbon credit projects and understanding of carbon market regulations, especially clean cooking projects.
- Strong understanding of clean cooking technologies, household energy transitions, and related SDGs; thorough expertise of clean cooking methodologies, MRV systems, data analytics, and digital monitoring tools.
- Strong Expertise in statistics for data sampling and statistical analysis create a specialized spreadsheets for carbon projects in accordance with Carbon Sampling and Survey Guidelines
- Strong project management and stakeholder coordination skills, especially with auditors, NGOs, or field survey firms.
- Excellent written communication and reporting skills.
