Purpose: We are currently gauging interest from experienced individuals in Financial Crime / AML. This is not a specific job opening at this point, but an opportunity to express your interest in potential future role(s) within our Auckland Consulting team.

The opportunity:

    • Leadership and expertise in financial crime transformation and assurance, with experience at a senior level in industry that will enable you to operate at the Associate Director or Director level in KPMG’s financial services consulting team.
    • Proven ability to lead programmes, implement change, develop complex transformation projects, deliver robust compliance or potentially assurance reviews, and navigate regulatory frameworks for high-impact outcomes.
    • Recognised for innovative, pragmatic solutions, strong client relationships, and seizing business development opportunities in the financial crime sector.

Day to day you will:

    • Lead or oversee KPMG’s Financial Crime team, lead transformation and assurance projects in the financial crime space, drawing on your substantial experience and an in-depth understanding of local and international trends and requirements.
    • Lead and mentor a team to achieve performance goals by fostering collaboration, providing strategic guidance, and facilitating professional development through coaching.
    • Analyse and interpret financial crime policies, procedures, and controls, identifying opportunities for improvement, transformation of activities; or providing robust, pragmatic assurance advice.
    • Prepare and review high-quality reports and documentation for Management, Boards, and regulators.  And be prepared to meet and explain our findings.
    • Monitor emerging regulatory and industry developments to ensure that transformation and assurance approaches remain fit for purpose and tailored to clients’ needs.
    • Identify and proactively respond to business development opportunities, including cross-functional engagements that add material value for clients in transformation and assurance contexts.
    • Enhance KPMG’s reputation through the demonstrated quality of your transformation and assurance work, technical expertise, and innovative methods.

What you'll bring to the team:

    • At least 8 years of leadership experience in financial crime transformation and assurance, ideally at the Associate Director or Director level, within the financial services sector or a leading consulting firm.
    • Proven track record delivering complex transformation programmes and robust assurance reviews in financial crime, risk, or compliance functions.
    • Tertiary qualifications in business disciplines (e.g. finance, accounting, law) are advantageous but not mandatory.
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective engagement with executive stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
    • Comprehensive understanding of New Zealand’s anti-money laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism legislation, or demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire and apply this knowledge within transformation and assurance mandates.
    • Eligibility to work in New Zealand, with valid work rights.
