The Debt Advisory Services team focuses on the delivery of independent capital management advice involving the structuring, arranging and raising of debt capital for New Zealand borrowers. We work with a broad range of clients ranging from listed entities, private companies, Government Departments, and not-for-profit entities. We also work across a broad range of sectors including manufacturing, retail, healthcare, professional services, energy and natural resources, financial services, and real estate.

The opportunity:

    • The Debt Advisory team is looking for an experienced professional to join at the Manager to Associate Director level
    • We are looking for someone who wants to work on a wide range of engagements, including debt raising or refinancing, capital structure planning, credit ratings advisory and debt restructuring
    • Sustainable Finance knowledge and experience would also be advantageous as KPMG is growing its presence in this area and it is undertaking a number of advisory roles relating to verification of green/sustainable loans or bonds, ESG diligence and development of sustainable finance frameworks
    • Work with the Deal Advisory leadership to support the strategic goals of the division including operational responsibility for the successful delivery of engagements, and staff and client relationships
    • Contributes to the growth of the business through identification and acquisition of new business, building networks and relationships, and promoting the services of KPMG as a whole

Day to day you will:

    • Be responsible for delivering high quality work on engagements which meet the client’s respective needs
    • Work on a wide range of engagements to complete capital management reviews, credit analysis, benchmarking, analysis of financial information, corporate structures, and funding arrangements
    • Build and maintain financial models
    • Assisting clients in understanding the true strategic and operational capability of debt raising or refinancing, capital structure planning, credit ratings advisory and debt restructuring
    • Work closely with other deal advisory disciplines within KPMG local and national networks
    • Be responsible for the management, development and work quality of junior team members

What you'll bring to our team:

    • A relevant tertiary qualification in Commerce or similar, with a strong academic record and ability to commence/continue relevant post graduate studies (CFA, CA, Masters in Finance)
    • At least 3+ years' experience in a professional role including specific experience within the corporate finance advisory environment, or in relevant roles at a trading or investment bank involving deal origination, syndications, credit or sustainable finance
    • Previous experience in management and leadership of team and technical work
    • Business development ability to market oneself and attract new clients to the firm
    • Familiarity with legal frameworks relating to Debt Advisory and Sustainable Finance
    • Strong understanding of relevant technical standards and guidelines in chosen practice area
    • Financial modelling capability would be advantageous
    • Strong people interaction & communication skills, presentation and business writing development ability
    • A high level of professionalism and attention to detail
    • Strong analytical and organisational skills with proven initiative to deliver
