Our Accounting Advisory Services team (AAS) provides technical advice and support on accounting and financial reporting matters in 3 primary areas:
 
—   interpretation of existing accounting standards.
—   implementation of new standards; and
—   accounting for significant one-off events like an IPO, M&A transactions, Government policy initiatives etc. 
 
AAS forms part of KPMG’s Department of Professional Practice (DPP) within the firm’s Audit division.  The team is focused on both audit and advisory clients.

The Opportunity:

    • AAS has an opportunity for a Manager or Senior Manager to join our team and deliver technically excellent work direct to clients through a commercial lens, support the internal technical needs of KPMG engagement teams and help build the Accounting Advisory practice. This involves dealing directly with clients and supporting a range of divisions within KPMG.

Day to day you will:

    • Deliver accounting advisory services to range of clients, including large, listed entities, government entities, private businesses, and not-for-profit entities as well as internal KPMG audit and advisory teams.
    • Provide subject matter expertise and lead client meetings to advise on technical accounting as well as practical implications relating to new and existing accounting standards.
    • Collaborate within our AAS  team to deliver compliant, commercial outcomes and develop and implement practical advice and recommendations to a range of complex accounting, financial and regulatory challenges.
    • Develop thought leadership and technical accounting training material.
    • Undertake business development activities and work with Partners and Directors to sell/deliver solutions to clients.
    • Support our audit teams with their queries.
    • Coach and mentor junior engagement team members.

What you'll bring to our team:

    • In-depth technical knowledge of accounting standards (IFRS/IPSAS and NZ equivalents of these standards) gained in a public accountancy firm, corporate or governmental reporting environment.
    • CA qualification (or equivalent). 
    • The ability to express views and ideas articulately and clearly, both written and verbally.
    • The vision to participate in strategy setting and marketing of accounting advisory services.
    • Good presentation skills encompassing an ability to convey complex concepts accurately and succinctly.
    • Experience in proposal writing and presenting to clients.
    • Strong technical and analytical skills (an eye for detail and awareness of broader business issues).
    • A high level of responsiveness to client needs (both internal and external clients).
    • Leadership abilities with experience of managing a team as well as stakeholder and relationship management skills.
