About the role:

The Payroll Manager will be responsible for leading, coaching and managing payroll for multiple entities in the US and Canada. This position will require strong people management skills, coordinating and checking payroll with external vendors, preparing the journal, and making sure payments are made timely and accurately. You will need to maintain relationships with external payroll vendors as well as internal stakeholders, in addition to coaching and developing your team members to achieve the best results. In this position, you will be part of a dynamic, humble and open-minded team, who processes payroll globally.

What you'll do:

    • Drive and coordinate activities of payroll team in order to achieve departmental targets and complete operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees and following up on work results
    • Maintain alignment, focus and motivation within the team
    • Drive the staffing and talent management process, including selection interviews, onboarding plans, development plans and succession plans
    • Drive conversations regarding team members' development
    • Setup operational goals, 1:1s and follow up on the agreed goals
    • Maintain a vision for each individual and for the entire team
    • Help create a sustainable and future-proof organization
    • Work with various stakeholders and find the right level of approach to ensure consistency and efficiency
    • Work independently as well as be a strong contributor within our internal account teams (e.g. align with the regional HR sub-departments & other HR Teams)
    • Utilize interpersonal skills, good communication and the proven ability to work accurately with tight deadlines (a strong focus on results is a must)
    • Ensure and oversee compliance with statutory and SOX reporting and filing requirements
    • Stay up to date with local payroll regulations
    • Act as a functional expert and main contact point regarding payroll related escalations
    • Act as the main point of contact on the country level for internal and external audits by coordinating payroll feedback and escalating to global leaders when necessary
    • Oversee relationship with external payroll providers by tracking their performance and establishing KPIs for improvement when necessary
    • Act as a 2nd level reviewer of payrolls and other statutory/adhoc payments in detail
    • Drive to prepare monthly payroll reconciliations, journal and accrual reports
    • Take ownership and represent the payroll function during ongoing projects
    • Share experience and step into projects related to multi-country payroll on a global level
    • Review and suggest process optimizations to ensure alignment with local rules and global processes, and compliance
    • Provide support to other regional payroll team managers/leads as a backup
    • Assist payroll staff and other interested parties to interpret and apply payroll laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
    • Understand end-to-end payroll functions and is able to relate these to company objectives
    • Create and deliver proactive employee training sessions for the team based on company needs and opportunities
    • Support team members in the creation of SOPs for processes and procedures related to payroll service and support
    • Proactively contribute to regular global projects and initiatives, making sure all deliverables are on time
    • Challenging As-Is and fueling projects with the concept of new/better way of working
    • Deliver team targets
    • Maintain, achieve and improve SLAs and create new plans if necessary
    • Help achieve high-team satisfaction, motivation, and great transparency within the team
    • Ensure global managers have been updated with the latest data on team metrics and performance
    • Ensure that stakeholders receive clear and timely communication

Who you are:

    • Minimum 8+ years of experience working in a payroll/accounting environment
    • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in team management and coaching
    • Experience in payroll for multi-state US & Canada
    • Experience with start-up companies preferred
    • Experience managing internal and external stakeholders such as other HR functions, employees, and local payroll providers
    • Experience with payroll/accounting technology (ex: Workday, Netsuite, Ultimate Software)
    • Excellent communication skills
    • FPC or CPP is a plus
    • Ability to work effectively as an individual and as a team member
    • Ability to take ownership of payroll processes
    • Problem solving mindset & positive attitude
    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask
    • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
    • Crypto experience is a plus
