Help us use technology to make a big green dent in the universe!

Kraken powers some of the most innovative global developments in energy.

We’re a technology company focused on creating a smart, sustainable energy system. From optimising renewable generation, creating a more intelligent grid and enabling utilities to provide excellent customer experiences, our operating system for energy is transforming the industry around the world in a way that benefits everyone.

It’s a really exciting time in energy. Help us make a real impact on shaping a better, more sustainable future.

As Head of Engineering for our Kraken Frontend Platform pillar, you will lead the engineering, architecture, and delivery of Kraken’s frontend foundations.

You’ll own the teams building Blueprint (UI libraries), Flapjack (mobile SDK and mobile enablement), and Tako (design system / support-site frontend), while working closely with the Design team to ensure consistency and accessibility across all experiences.

This is a pivotal leadership role: you’ll unify frontend capabilities across web and mobile, elevate cross-cutting concerns like accessibility, performance, and developer experience, and help define how Kraken scales its user experience across both consumer- and agent-facing applications.

Leadership & strategy

    • Ensure alignment between engineering, design, product, and wider org goals
    • Advocate and enforce best practices (architecture, testing, performance, accessibility, security)

Engineering & architecture

    • Lead architecture decisions for shared frontend and mobile app enablement (React, Kotlin/native, design tokens, theming, component reuse)
    • Drive cross-cutting concerns like accessibility (WCAG AA+), internationalisation, performance, and scalability
    • Build systems and processes for component reuse, SDK distribution, mobile app integration, and backward compatibility
    • Ensure high quality, maintainability, and test coverage across all codebases (web + mobile)

What you'll have

    • 8+ years of web-app or mobile-app engineering experience, including large-scale production systems
    • 2+ years in a leadership/management role in frontend or platform engineering
    • Deep technical knowledge in some of our tech-stack React (or similar frameworks), Kotlin / native mobile, design systems, component libraries
    • Strong experience in architecting reusable libraries
    • Proven track record driving accessibility, performance, scalability across frontend and mobile systems
    • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills
    • Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and deployment pipelines for both web and mobile
    • Bringing together web and mobile disciplines identifying opportunities for cross-collaboration.
    • Hiring/recruitment to meet business needs.
    • Managing team performance.
    • Responsibility for ensuring frontend platform delivery and expectations.
    • Communication with both internal and external client stakeholders.
