About Kraken Field
We’re making converting homes to green electrons as simple as possible, by building a platform to allow engineers to install smart meters, solar panels, heat pumps, EV chargers, and more.
We’re busy launching in new countries, working with ever more engineers and tech partners, building exciting new features at scale, and creating the integrated solution to retrofit homes across the world - all in the name of making it as easy and cheap as possible for customers to go green.
Kraken Field is a multifunctional, multinational team made up of product, backend, design, mobile, web and more - all focused together on making Octopus the go-to name in green home installations. And we’re looking for smart individuals with an interest in the space who can help us make it happen.
About our team
We're looking for a Mid-Weight UX/UI Designer to join the Kraken Tech team. We build technology that helps energy and other suppliers manage their customers and most business operations through our first-in-class platform. We’re passionate about designing simple, elegant user experiences and using human-centered design as inspiration to solve complex problems for our customers. You'll be joining our design team and working primarily with group product teams to improve how users interact with the features and tools available or being built on Kraken.
What you'll do
- End-to-end UX and UI design across Kraken, from research and discovery through to wireframes, prototypes, final designs, and implementation.
- Improve user experience and interface design across complex data-driven areas, helping users navigate and interact with information more effectively.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (developers, PMs, users, clients) to design features, define roadmaps, and align work with broader strategy.
- Plan and facilitate user research activities such as workshops, interviews, usability testing, and discovery sessions to uncover user needs and pain points.
- Actively contribute to and maintain our Design System, including components, documentation, and evolving design patterns.
- Seek and give regular feedback, sharing your work early and reviewing peers’ work constructively to maintain a high design standard.
- Maintain and improve design documentation, including process guidelines, onboarding materials, and workflow improvements.
- Embed yourself in Kraken’s culture and mission, showing a clear understanding of our purpose and the needs of our clients.
- Proactively identify areas for improvement, contributing ideas that help shape our products and enhance user outcomes.
What you'll have
- 2+ years of experience designing digital products across mobile and web platforms.
- Proficiency in Figma and familiarity with Design Systems and component libraries.
- Strong grasp of UX principles, usability, accessibility, and inclusive design.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams with PMs and front-/back-end developers.
- Experience working on global products and features.
- A practical understanding of when to follow or adapt design processes.
- Attention to detail, with a focus on quality and user needs.
- You'll also need to a have at least a basic understanding of/experience with:
- Front-end frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap, React), HTML, and CSS - enough to discuss feasibility with developers.
- Agile development workflows, project stand-ups, and tools like Asana.
- Accessibility standards and designing for inclusive experiences.
- Analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Hotjar).
