The Role
Purpose of the role
We are currently looking for an experienced Azure Data Engineer to manage and develop our data engineering team. You will be a proactive and hands-on leader who constantly seeks to improve the way things are done by setting-up best practice and training others.
Team
The Data & Digital team helps people to use data effectively to improve the performance of their projects or organisations. To do this effectively and at scale we use the modern digital technologies including Azure, Fabric, Power BI and Python. We pride ourselves on being structured and outcome driven, helping us to build the best solutions and helping us to continuously improve what we do.
Your top 5 responsibilities
1. Develop and mentor our team: Help us build a high-performing data engineering team, enabling our team members to reach their full potential through training and mentoring.
2. Become the guardian of our data engineering processes: Continuously improve our best practices and introduce new processes, making sure they are documented and followed by our teams.
3. Deliver and overseedata solutions for our clients: Ensure we build adaptable data pipelines tailored to clients' needs, employing a range of technology solutions and following best practice.
4. Lead data solutions for internal reporting: Helping Laminar to become data driven by building an internal data warehouse to collect organisation data and enhance operational efficiency.
5. Productisation of client solutions: Designing and building scalable solutions that work across different clients and technologies within the construction industry.
Your Capabilities
As a candidate, you should have:
- Degree educated in one of the following: Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years working with SQL: building and optimising analytics tables, building complex queries. Experience with other database technologies is a bonus.
- 5+ years designing and implementing robust data pipelines in Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks.
- Strong experience in software engineering fundamentals including testing (e.g. Azure Test Plans, dbt), Git version control, agile development and sharing knowledge via code review, mentoring and documentation (e.g. Confluence, DevOps wiki).
- Experience with Medallion Architecture for data pipelines.
- Experience leading data/ software teams
- Experience building business processes for teams to follow
It would also be great if you are/have:
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric
- Microsoft Certification: Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
- Experience with Python and Azure Functions to glue together data infrastructure.
- Experience in implementing products with data scientists
- Working knowledge of C# and JavaScript for data pipeline development and optimising API solutions for data engineering workflows.
