In pursuit of this mission, we are looking to hire a MTSS Assistant. The Lansing School District is seeking an MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) Assistant to provide both academic and behavioral support to students, contributing to a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. MTSS Assistants are essential members of the school team who work closely with teachers, interventionists, and school leaders to ensure that all students receive the academic and behavioral interventions they need to be successful.
Qualifications - Education & Certification
- Must meet one of the following:
- Associate’s Degree
- 60 completed college credits
- Proof of passing the ETS Paraprofessional Exam
- OR currently hold an LSEA hourly position
Qualifications - Previous Experience
- Experience working with students in academic or behavioral intervention settings
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with students from racially, economically, and linguistically diverse backgrounds
Qualifications - Skills & Knowledge
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Previous experience in a school implementing RTI/MTSS or behavior support systems
- Understanding of how to interpret IEPs and academic/behavioral data
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Excel, and Synergy
- Interest in pursuing a career in education or student services
- Proficiency in a language other than English (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, Hindi)
Sample Job Responsibilities
- Provide academic support in literacy and math, particularly in small group and one-on-one settings
- Assist with implementation of behavior support plans and interventions
- Help develop and monitor tiered intervention systems aligned to MTSS
- Build strong, positive relationships with students and families
- Track student behavior and academic data using tools such as Synergy, Excel, or Google Sheets
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and school leaders to support instructional goals and behavior strategies
- Coordinate services and referrals for students and families, as needed
- Support classroom instruction, student engagement, and school-wide culture efforts
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of assigned students
- Participate in professional development and feedback sessions to continuously improve support strategies
- Perform other duties as assigned to support student achievement and school improvement goals

- Must be able to stand, walk, and move quickly between indoor and outdoor settings for extended periods.
- Regularly required to bend, kneel, crouch, and assist with physical transfers or interventions involving students.
- Must be able to lift, push, or carry up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Frequent verbal communication is required to support students, coordinate with staff, and manage emergent situations.
- Occasional use of computers, radios, and other communication or documentation tools.
- May be exposed to noise, weather conditions, and other elements associated with a school environment.

$20.70 - $24.79 an hour
1 FTE (8 hours per day and 5 days per week)
