The Bilingual Assistant will perform duties and responsibilities related, but not limited to, providing differentiated ESL (English as a Second Language) instruction under the supervision and direction from a highly qualified certified teacher. The role of the Bilingual Assistant is to assist core content area and general education classroom teachers with instruction and non-instructional classroom related assignments. Instruction and assignments will be planned by the classroom teacher, who is responsible for their overall implementation and management. The main goal of this position is to provide appropriate academic, social, and emotional services to meet the needs of ML (multilingual) students at each Language Assistance Program (LAP) building district wide. The duties listed below are not all-inclusive, but indicate the most important responsibilities for this position.

Minimum Qualifications - Must have one of the following:

    • Associate's Degree
    • 60 completed college credits
    • Proof of passing the ETS Paraprofessional Exam

Other Qualifications

    • Previous experience working with students in small group and RTI settings
    • Understanding of how to read and understand a student's IEP
    • Fluency in Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Fula, Kinyarwanda, Sango, Spanish or Swahili

Job Responsibilities

    • Assist ESL students in core content areas for academic improvement
    • Provide tutoring support for individual or small groups of students
    • Maintain accurate records and documentation for ML students' progress monitoring
    • Collaborate with school stakeholders to identify and support diverse learning styles
    • Foster holistic development of ML students in cognitive, social, and emotional domains
    • Ensure smooth integration of new ML students into school procedures
    • Create a supportive learning environment for social and academic success
    • Aid in acclimating students to the American school system and its expectations
    • Other duties as assigned to best support the Lansing School District mission
$16.86 - $21.48 an hour
