Last Energy is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer with expertise in the design and development of compact heat exchangers. The Heat Exchanger Engineer will be responsible for analyzing, interpreting, and creating designs and simulations, developing and maintaining engineering documentation, and liaising with cross-functional teams to support prototype development and testing.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

    • Lead collaboration with external partners and equipment suppliers to oversee the design and integration of specialized heat exchangers
    • Conduct and maintain internal analyses and models in alignment with process team for the detailed design of heat exchangers
    • Provide expertise to identify materials, fabrication methods, key cost drivers, configuration needs, and value engineering opportunities specific to Last Energy’s heat transfer requirements (with an eye to long-term improvements)
    • Manage prototype projects from initial concept to final product shipment
    • Perform thermal and mechanical design of new heat transfer products
    • Prepare cost estimates, project, and test plans, and supervise testing of new products
    • Perform mechanical and structural calculations, prepare design details, perform relevant code calculations, prepare performance curves, and complete all required analyses for heat exchangers per HEI, ASME, TEMA, PED, and any other US and international standards, as necessary, using in-house proprietary software and commercial programs, and prepare any manual calculations for unconventional applications
    • Complete mechanical design and required mechanical analysis, and support discussions on quality assurance requirements and construction materials with external parties
    • Review fabrication drawings for conformity to specifications and applicable codes and standards
    • Perform onsite equipment inspections and create reports documenting findings

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering field
    • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in engineering pressure vessels in power or oil & gas markets
    • Expertise in SolidWorks, PTC Creo (Pro/Engineer), or other 3D modeling software
    • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation or Autodesk Inventor Nastran) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (ANSYS Fluent)
    • Advanced knowledge of mechanical calculations and design programs: PV Elite, Compress, HTRI or other industry-recognized design software
    • Experience with Structural and Thermal simulations
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in cross-functional teams
    • Creative thinking and a passion for innovation in thermal design
    • Design Engineering in a fabricated metal product manufacturing environment is a plus
    • Shop floor interface experience is a plus
