Job Summary:

We are seeking a seasoned and highly skilled Senior Advanced Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in Department of Defense (DoD) programs, a strong background in manufacturing and fabrication methods, and a solid understanding of ruggedized design principles. The ideal candidate will lead complex mechanical engineering projects, ensuring robust solutions that meet stringent performance, reliability, and environmental requirements. Experience with ruggedized systems is a significant bonus, making you a critical asset in delivering mission-critical solutions. This is a 3 month contract to hire and offers remote flexibility 2-3 days per week.

Responsibilities:

    • Mechanical Design and Development:
    • Lead the design and development of mechanical systems and components for defense applications.
    • Ensure designs meet DoD requirements, environmental conditions, and industry standards.
    • Apply ruggedization principles to ensure durability in harsh environments (temperature, vibration, and shock).
    • Manufacturing and Fabrication:
    • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are optimized for fabrication and assembly.
    • Evaluate and select materials and fabrication techniques suitable for mission-critical applications.
    • Provide support for prototype development, testing, and production ramp-up.
    • Project Leadership:
    • Oversee the end-to-end mechanical engineering process, from concept through production.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, program managers, and quality assurance.
    • Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and failure mode analyses (FMEA).
    • Compliance and Documentation:
    • Ensure designs comply with DoD standards, MIL-SPECs, and other regulatory guidelines.
    • Generate and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including 3D CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and technical reports.
    • Innovation and Problem Solving:
    • Drive innovation in mechanical designs to improve performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Troubleshoot design challenges and production issues, proposing effective solutions.
$50 - $65 an hour
