The Opportunity:
LeoLabs is looking for an experienced professional to lead its public policy and government affairs efforts with an emphasis on strategic business priorities in the U.S. federal government. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success influencing legislation and securing funding for new capabilities in the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and/or federal civilian executive government. The successful candidate will also have a track record of delivering outcomes in 24 months or less. You will work closely with the entire LeoLabs management team and report directly to the Chief of Corporate Affairs.

In this role, you will: 
• Help to create and execute LeoLabs’s government affairs strategy, including its legislative and policy agenda
• Establish and maintain relationships with key government decision makers primarily on Capitol Hill and key stakeholders across U.S. and international governments as needed
• Manage lobbying and government affairs firms – creating annual plans and setting objectives, monitoring performance, and leading meetings to brief staffers and members of Congress
• Lead relationships with industry associations – drafting and reviewing commentary on legislation, participating in governance committees, setting objectives, and monitoring performance
• Represent LeoLabs at industry functions in the Washington, DC area and globally as necessary
• Advance the company’s strategic goals through education and thought-leadership

Qualifications: 
• 7+ years’ experience in the public policy arena with expertise in defense or space policy, and Congressional appropriations
• Experience working for a US executive branch agency, US regulatory agency, or Congress preferred
• You must have strong relationships with members of Congress and staff on key committees, such as Armed Services, Appropriations, CJS and Intel
• You must be an energetic self-starter
• You must be able to be a part of a small team, able to operate independently but adept at partnering with other LeoLabs executives and with lobbyists, consultants, and industry associations that you manage
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills

Within 1 month, you’ll:
• Complete our onboarding program designed to get you up to speed on our business, vision and team, our lobbyist, and our government relations consultants
• Gain an understanding about how your role fits into LeoLabs overall strategic short and long term vision

Within 3 months, you’ll:
• Meet with industry associations and lead our collaborations with them
• Map out specific long and short term action items to align with goals
• Identify industry advocates in each of the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community and schedule meetings with LeoLabs team as appropriate
• Be leading our engagements with Congress, the White House, the Pentagon, and intelligence agencies
• Monitor and report on key legislation

Within 6 months, you’ll:
• Identified and secure legislative objectives for LeoLabs i
• Regularly represent us at industry functions
• Write and deliver messaging to government stakeholders

Within 12 months, you’ll:
• Identified and contributed to LeoLabs’ OKRs and business objectives through

ITAR REQUIREMENTS
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. More information regarding ITAR can be found at DDTC’s website
