Lighthouse is an AI services company that is bringing the technology of the self-driving car into the home. With use of 3D sensors, machine learning and artificial intelligence, we have created the only interactive assistant that can tell you everything you want to know about your life at home in an instant, from anywhere.

We are rapidly expanding our team and are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the team! In this role you will take ownership of significant parts of the C++ backend, including productization of computer vision algorithms developed by the vision team.  In addition, you will ensure our internal architecture is well-designed and well-implemented.

What you will be doing:

    • Productize algorithms like face detection and person identification coming from our machine learning wizards. That is, Design, Engineer, Optimize, Deploy, Scale
    • Design and build C++ systems that handle big data for our machine learning
    • Compare annotated data from different annotators and merge the annotations in a sensible way
    • Upgrade our .archive file database to NoSQL+S3
    • Build a scalable logging and error reporting system
    • Design and implement an overhauled C++ API to petabytes of access video data efficiently, and regression-tested with 99.999% reliability
    • Develop and deploy adaptive video bitrate algorithms
    • Run our lightweight scrum process: Sprint planning meetings, daily 15-min standups, retrospectives, testing & release process
    • Optimize video compression
    • Design API for external devs to use, possibly via Udacity-related programs.

About you:

    • Expert level C++ and good/advanced in 1+ other languages (ideally including Java)
    • Expert level linux
    • Excellent API design
    • Experience with databases of some sort
    • Experience engineering production-grade distributed / multi-tier systems
    • Experience with Java
    • Sociable, friendly, easy to get along with, handles conflict well
    • Previous experience with video compression algorithms
    • Familiar with AWS or similar cloud providers, deployment automation, configuration tools
    • Strong understanding of network protocols
    • BS or MS in computer science
