About the Role
As a Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in the growth and evolution of the Accounting function, helping to establish and refine policies and procedures that support Lightship’s continued growth and scale. You’ll work closely with the Accounting Manager to drive core accounting processes, including internal and external reporting, month-end close, and day-to-day operations such as payment processing, account reconciliations, financial statement review, and resolution of tax and payroll matters.
You will also take ownership of recording and analyzing manufacturing-related costs, including inventory valuation, sales recognition, and cost of goods sold (COGS), ensuring accuracy and insight into product-level financial performance. In addition, you will contribute to audit preparation and lead or support special accounting-related projects, including the ongoing optimization of our recently implemented ERP system.
This is a highly cross-functional role. You will collaborate with teams across the organization to support operational alignment and drive process improvement in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment. Responsibilities
- Prepare and book journal entries across all areas of the business
- Prepare monthly workpapers and reconcile balance sheet accounts
- Manage growing accounts payable volume, including two-way purchase order matching and accurate general ledger coding
- Administer employee expense cards, including issuance, receipt monitoring, and appropriate account coding
- Process payroll in coordination with internal and external partners
- Perform cost and variance analysis related to labor, materials, production, and inventory
- Ensure compliance with business tax filings and assist with resolution of ad hoc tax matters
- Support external audits through preparation of schedules and supporting documentation
- Assist with the documentation and enhancement of internal controls over financial reporting
- Maintain and track fixed assets, including capitalization and depreciation and assist with implementing a tagging system
- Review financial statements for accuracy and compliance with GAAP
- Support ongoing ERP system optimization, with a focus on purchase order tracking, landed cost allocation, and inventory management
- Provide financial data analysis to support management reporting and auditor inquiries
- Contribute to ad hoc projects in response to evolving accounting and business needs
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of accounting experience, including regular work with financial statements and exposure to inventory and cost accounting in a manufacturing environment; experience with early-stage hardware companies is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification preferred
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP
- In-depth knowledge of the accounts payable function, including accrual processes and proper month-end cut-off procedures
- Proven ability to reconcile accounts, investigate discrepancies, and tie supporting schedules to source documentation
- Prior experience supporting annual audit preparation and procedures
- Ability to navigate ad hoc projects, including tax-related matters
Preferred Qualifications
- Passion for climate solutions, hard tech, and/or the outdoor industry
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Manufacturing ERP systems and ERP implementations is a plus
- Ability to thrive in the fast-paced, ambiguous environment of a startup

- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills and keen attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with a strong work ethic
Equity
- Lightship compensation consists of the yearly salary above plus equity, which gives you a stake in the company.
$90,000 - $103,000 a year
