The impact you'll make
Internal Tools is a foundational team at Loblaw Digital with roots in the innovation of infrastructure and development operations tooling. We were the team to introduce Loblaw Digital to Kubernetes. Today, we back various teams in managing stores, campaigns, and product recalls. Our team was built on the foundation of automation and optimization, we use these methods to create tools that reduce toil and increase happiness.
What You'll Do
- Cultivate a deep understanding of the portfolio of applications we use, along with their respective strengths and weaknesses, to provide solutions to existing and future challenges
- Design, develop, and maintain custom internal tooling for your fellow colleagues Construct design documents and documentation to aid in maintenance and code reuse.
- Through your knowledge of industry trends and tools, together with your own experiences, work with the team to improve our software, our environment, and our process.
- Provide guidance and direction to the development teams to tear down obstacles and keep initiatives on target and moving forward.
- Provide technical guidance and support in resolving critical issues.
- Mentor and coach junior developers

- Java using the Spring Framework
- Python
- Git (Gitlabs), including Gitflow, and Gitlab Runners
- Docker and Docker-compose.
- React (both Javascript and Typescript) using Next.js
- GCP and Kubernetes
- Shell

- You are comfortable with back-end technologies, from writing a small automation script in Bash/Python locally to building reports in SQL in a production environment
- You demonstrate significant proactiveness and self-reliance
- A degree in Computer Science or a combination of equivalent experience with a college diploma
- 5+ years of active development experience
- Experience with RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MySQL)
- Deep understanding of Java and Python.
- Experience working with React.js including Typescript and Javascript. (You likely won’t be building any front end applications but you will be working on tooling to aid teams who do)
- Nice to Have:
- Elixir
- Experience developing Slack, including integrations with other tools such as Jira.
- Experience developing tooling for other developers.
