We are seeking a talented and experienced Traffic Engineer to serve as our Lead for Traffic Simulation Modeling. This leadership role will oversee all traffic simulation modeling across a rapidly growing 30-person traffic engineering and planning team. You will provide quality assurance for traffic simulation models, scope and budget development, staff development and mentorship, and interface with clients through the presentation of traffic simulation model findings and results.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in simulation modeling, transportation engineering, statistics, data analysis, and modeling techniques, with a passion for solving complex transportation problems and creating safer and more efficient roadways. In this position, the candidate will:

    • Develop scopes, budgets, and schedules for traffic simulation modeling projects.
    • Determine staffing requirements for upcoming simulation projects and complete resourcing plans to ensure project schedules can be met.
    • Review the work of junior staff and provide coaching and mentorship.
    • Serve as a Task Manager or Project Manager with oversight of traffic simulation modeling.
    • Utilize simulation modeling techniques to analyze traffic flows, congestion patterns, and transportation network performance.
    • Calibrate traffic simulation models to field conditions using a variety of data sources as targets.
    • Conduct detailed analysis of simulation modeling results and outputs.
    • Design and execute scenario-based simulations to evaluate the impacts of traffic management improvements, signal upgrades, and capacity expansions.
    • Provide technical expertise and guidance on traffic simulation modeling methodologies, best practices, and emerging trends.
    • Prepare clear and concise reports, presentations, and technical documents to communicate findings and recommendations to clients and stakeholders.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate traffic simulation modeling into traffic impact studies, multimodal planning, corridor studies, highway design projects, etc.
    • May perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred qualifications for this role:

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field
    • 5+ years of relevant industry experience with traffic simulation modeling
    • Experience working on traffic engineering projects for government agencies or consulting firms preferred
    • Proficiency in VISSIM traffic simulation modeling software
    • Proficiency with traffic analysis and traffic signal operations using Synchro
    • Experience with traffic forecasting techniques and highway safety analysis methodologies
    • Strong analytical skills and experience with statistical analysis and data visualization
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
    • Ability to program in Python and/or R
    • Experience with “big data” sources such as Replica or StreetLight
    • PE and PTOE licensure preferred
