Loft Orbital builds a space infrastructure providing a fast & simple path to orbit. Using different flight proven buses, we design, integrate and operate spacecrafts, to fly physical or virtual customers payloads. We handle entire missions from end to end, significantly reducing the lead-time and risk of a traditional space mission.

As an Earth Observation Senior Engineer at Loft, you will be the technical reference of optical payloads activities over the company. You will work closely with lead system engineer for each mission, and also with flight and ground software teams for processing activities, AIT for payload test activities and operations for in orbit calibration and image quality follow-on.

About This Role:

    • Work with Earth observation customers to derive mission and payload requirements together with verification techniques and flowdown to software and hardware teams, including suppliers.
    • Follow and drive optical payload suppliers development and test activities
    • Develop with AIT team and OPS teams, on-ground and in-orbit test and calibration strategy
    • Develop on-board and on ground data processing strategy
    • Support the lead system engineer for mission CONOPS development
    • Support business development activities for optical payload customers and earth observation virtual missions
    • Support test procedures, and participate in the integration, test campaign, launch and in-orbit commissioning
    • Contribute to/own company earth observation roadmap development

Must Haves:

    •  You have 8 or more years demonstrated experience as a earth observation payload/missions and image processing associated activities
    • You have a good understanding of bus performance needs (AKE, APE, stability, guidance profiles) derived from optical mission requirements
    • You are able to challenge customer needs (GSD, MTF, SNR, …) and include data processing (level 0 to 1c) capabilities into achievable end-to-end performances
    • You have strong communication and organizational skills
    • You challenge norms in aerospace engineering and testing activities and or experienced in fast-paced development environment
    • You handle pressure positively and are always ready to put hands-on
