We are looking for a Communications Lineman to join our team! Reporting to the Construction Managers, the OSP Inspector/Coordinator will oversee, or be responsible for, the production and quality inspection, ensuring contractor activities for the project. OSP Engineer will also assist with the design and layout of project OSP (Outside Plant) telecommunications routes to include aerial fiber design and layout, underground conduit, manhole/handhole and fiber design and layout, building entrance and riser facilities, utility, road and railroad crossings and other complex ROW issues. Conformance with company, local, State, and federal standards, and specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and understand Construction plans for both Aerial and Underground installation of fiber Optic cables.
- Read and understand construction specifications.
- Monitor aerial and Underground construction crews in the field to ensure compliance with construction drawings and the Specifications.
- Monitor aerial and underground construction crews in the field to ensure compliance with Permit requirements.
- Work with Work with City, County, DOT and Railroad personnel and inspectors to ensure compliance with permits.
- Understand construction techniques to resolve and propose solutions to construction challenges.
- Prepare written documents to resolve and document solutions to construction issues.
- Provide redline markups of construction drawings showing any deviation from the construction drawings or specifications.
- Operate and maintain GPS equipment in design of networks.
- Accurately interpret underground utility records, railroad validation and plat maps to avoid conflicts with other utilities and easement violations.
- Check contractor work and approve work for payment. Timely review and approval is an essential aspect of this position.
- Assist Construction Manager in performing detailed network designs, special studies, and preparing pricing estimates.
- Oversee field construction activities, including quality assurance.
- Ensure on-site jobsite safety.
- Interact with CADD Operators to resolve questions.
- Maintain day-to-day communication with the Construction Manager.
- Produce quality results in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Represent Loop Internet professionally to satisfy immediate customer needs and to foster return business.
- Respond clearly and effectively to spoken requests over the phone or in person, and to verbal or written instructions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
- Maintain regular, consistent, and professional attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance according to company policies.
- Adhere to company policies, regulations, procedures, and principles.
- Assist in other duties as needed and directed.
Education and/or Experience
- Two or more years of telecommunications outside plant construction experience or an acceptable equivalent required.
- Familiarity with GIS mapping is desired but not required.
- Familiarity with NESC and NEC standards.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety procedures relate to outside plant construction.
Computer Skills
- Good computer skills, with emphasis using Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, a variety of mapping and/or CAD drafting programs and other mapping/GIS software programs.
- Ability to type emails, daily reports, and other reports as needed.
Other Skills
- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
- Ability to comprehend detailed instructions.
- Ability to effectively communicate using the English language orally and in writing.
