About the role
Based in Ho Chi Minh, this role is a great fit for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, empathizes with customers, and has experience building, growing and mentoring high-performing engineering teams in a small to medium size startup company. You will drive the team to continuously deliver improvements to the customer experience, backend services and general technical architecture of Lovepop.

The right person in the role will need to look for optimization areas, work with marketing, customer service, operations and tech to create a compelling experience for our customers. Ability to influence, analytical ability, strong tracking/monitoring capabilities, exceptional English communication skills and leadership are essential to success in this role.

As VN Technical Director you will report directly to the CTO and lead the entire technical team based in Ho Chi Minh.

Accountabilities

    • Continuously deliver results that raise the bar for customers. Responsible for the overall development life cycle of the solution and manage complex projects with significant bottom line impact. Lead multiple concurrent strategic initiatives while collaborating with global stakeholders across Product, Design, Marketing, Operations, Finance and Engineering teams. Work with product managers in developing a strategy and road map to provide compelling capabilities that help them succeed in their business goals. Lead the project management,  prioritization, planning of projects and features.
    • Foster an innovative engineering culture that emphasizes technical excellence and operational rigor. Work closely with senior engineers to develop the best technical design and approach for new product development. Instill best practices for software development and documentation, assure designs meet requirements, and deliver high-quality work on tight schedules. Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an agile environment. Balance new development with the need for Operational Excellence of deployed systems. Understands how AI can be effectively integrated into the business to scale the business.
    • Build exceptional A+ development teams. Continuously raise the bar in developing an A+ technical team in Vietnam. Focus on the career development of the existing team and continuously raise the bar on new hires to the team. Optimize the organizational structure to create the most effective solutions. Mentor scientists and engineers, provide leadership on complex technical issues, design trade-offs, and feature and schedule prioritization. Understands trends in AI and how it can help increase the productivity of the Lovepop Tech team to reduce the need to hire.  Initiates and proposes solutions that can benefit the Lovepop Customer and Lovepop.
    • Build strong relationships between technology and the stakeholders that we serve. Interact closely with the Lovepop business teams to discover new opportunities to improve the solution for our customers. Leads efforts internally to educate internal teams on technical challenges and issues. Works with business owners to validate assumptions and asks questions to fill in knowledge gaps to ensure that the correct features are being built for our customers.

Qualifications

    • 8+ Years Online DTC Experience: Lovepop is an online card selling company and the person filling this role needs to have extensive experiences in innovating and delivering projects that are related to all parts of an online DTC company. The successful candidate for this position must have direct ownership experience in Online DTC processes and not just worked in an Ecommerce company.
    • Experience contributing to engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product: Able to provide an active voice to technical discussions ensuring the developers are making the right decisions and balance to moving fast vs delivering results.
    • Experience owning/driving roadmaps: Has contributed to the development of strategic roadmaps and solely owned and developed multiple tactical roadmaps that deliver the goals of the strategic roadmap.
    • Leading diverse technical teams of 25+ in an agile environment: Experience managing team members in a remote first model across multiple timezones and locations. Effective at working with resources based in the US and in non-core working hours.
    • Effective Communicator: Able to demonstrate effective verbal and writing communication of ideas in formal and non-formal environments. Speaks fluent English and has the ability to navigate cultural differences between the US and Vietnam. Ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.
    • Experience in a Fast Pace and sometimes Ambiguous Environment: Lovepop is at the forefront of learning to sell cards online. We move fast to try new ideas and adapt quickly to the needs of our customers. The person in this role needs to drive projects to be delivered quickly, accurately measure the impact and adapt to the results.
    • Think Outside the Box: Selling greeting cards online requires new thinking about how to serve our customers the best. This role requires a person to think about how we develop new experiences for the customer to create the right card for their special person.
    • Strong Technical Knowledge: Experience designing or architecting (reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems. Familiarity with AWS/cloud technologies and DTC solutions.
