Sr. Software Engineer (Component/Real-Time Simulation)

We're seeking a motivated Senior Software Engineer (Simulation) to help us build a revolutionary ‘lighter than air’ flight vehicle in Sunnyvale, CA. You will work within a dynamic engineering and design team to help plan, conceptualize, rapidly prototype, test and implement innovative solutions for the design, fabrication, and assembly of large experimental flight vehicles. We believe in fast-cycle development and approach to flight systems development with the motto "build a little, test a little, learn a lot.” This unique position allows for hands-on contributions through all phases of development, from concept to flight of an experimental aerospace vehicle.

We are seeking a mission-driven, passionate software engineer to help expand the simulation infrastructure, virtual controls, and existing developments. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing software and firmware that interfaces hardware mock-ups of aircraft instruments and displays to airship flight simulation programs.


    • Participate in the entire development life cycle including requirements, design, implementation, integration, installation, and test of simulation software
    • Develop the interface of real aircraft components and re-host airship software into the simulation environment
    • Design, code, and integrate graphical pilot cockpit displays
    • Develop and extend simulation of hardware components for SIL/HIL
    • Implement software interfaces to hardware subsystems
    • Create ICDs and other technical documentation


    • 7+ years of experience in a similar role
    • Experienced with C++ or Python-based GUI development
    • Proficient with Git version control
    • Experience creating software (GUI) virtualizations of physical interfaces (aircraft panels/cockpits/dashboards), display systems, or other interactive simulation applications
    • Experience programming in the Linux environment
    • Experience with build systems such as Make or CMake
    • Self-starter with a history of project ownership
    • B.S. in computer science, computer engineering, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

    • Familiarity with embedded development, real-time operating systems, MCUs
    • Experience working in a highly regulated environment (Aerospace, Medical devices, Automotive)
    • Thorough understanding of modeling and simulation, particularly HIL simulation
    • Experience with Continuous Integration practices and tools
    • Experience with Linux kernel development
    • Experience interfacing custom software with X-Plane or other COTS flight simulation software
