We are an aerospace R&D company building experimental and certified airships. We are developing advanced technologies to dramatically increase the capabilities and lower the cost of 21st-century airships.
 
LTA’s airships will have the ability to complement and even accelerate humanitarian disaster response and relief efforts, especially in remote areas that cannot be easily accessed by plane and boat due to limited or destroyed infrastructure. We ultimately aim to create a family of aircraft with zero emissions that, when used for shipping goods and moving people, would substantially reduce the global carbon footprint of aviation.

We are seeking a motivated CFD Analyst to conduct CFD analysis on a wide range of facets related to revolutionary ‘lighter than air’ flight vehicles in Akron, OH. You will work closely with a dynamic engineering and design team, helping to provide subject matter expertise on CFD-related topics. We believe in fast-cycle development with the motto “build a little, test a little, learn a lot.”

We are seeking a mission-driven, passionate CFD Analyst to perform CFD analysis on every facet of our flight vehicle.

Responsibilities

    • Perform CFD based analysis of complex aerodynamic shapes and problems
    • Perform multidisciplinary (aero, structures, propulsion etc.) modeling and simulation
    • Run applications on compute clusters and/or clouds
    • Write technical reports and research proposals
    • Low fidelity analytic, moderate, and high fidelity modeling of vehicle subsystems
    • Aerodynamic database generation and analysis
    • Multivariate trade studies regarding system design and presentation of results
    • Support a multidisciplinary team including controls, mechanical, production, software, and electrical engineers to tackle design challenges and resolve time-sensitive issues
    • Update sheet and existing vehicle design analysis: aerodynamic, propulsion, and power system performance

Qualifications

    • BS, MS (or Ph.D.) in Engineering Discipline
    • 2- 5 years of professional experience in a related technical field
    • Experience in ANSYS FLUENT
    • Experience in generating quality meshes for CFD
    • Experience creating and/or adapting Solidworks/CAD models for CFD Analysis
    • Experience with Large Eddy Simulations or other high fidelity transient CFD models
    • Experience with Lifting line, vortex lattice, panel methods, Navier-Stokes CFD
    • Experience with Simulation Automation & Parameter-Space implementation
    • Implementation on HPC platforms
    • Strong writing and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

    • Good programming skills (C/C++, FORTRAN, Python, Linux)
    • Generating aerodynamic databases, low and high fidelity aerodynamic modeling
    • Wind tunnel test planning, execution, and data analysis
    • Applied aeroacoustics
    • Experience in aerodynamics and structures coupling
    • Knowledge of flight dynamics and stability & control methods
    • Experience in aeroelastic analysis
    • Expertise in HPC and setting up compute clusters and clouds
    • Use of machine learning methods
