We’re seeking a motivated Software Engineering Manager to help us build a revolutionary ‘lighter than air’ flight vehicle in Sunnyvale, CA. You will lead a dynamic engineering and design team to help conceptualize, prototype, test, and implement innovative solutions for our experimental flight vehicle. 

We are seeking a mission-driven, passionate people manager to help transform requirements to code, drive the certification process, and help the team realize its potential. You will be responsible for empowering your team and defining the road map for flight software integration.


    • In this role, you will lead a flight software engineering team in a fast-paced environment
    • Guide and mentor the Flight Software team through architecture development and vehicle integration
    • Develop prototypes to prove out key design concepts and quantify technical constraints
    • Collaborate with the Director of Electrical Design to foster communication and scope identification between the Electrical and GNC teams
    • Champion a culture of documentation to support certification efforts
    • Partner with the Flight Test, Safety, Reliability, and Systems teams to ensure redundancy and fault-tolerance
    • Break down projects into manageable tasks, lead meetings, and track milestone progress
    • Prioritize personal and technical team development as well as cross-functional collaboration
    • Lead the software and embedded software development, testing, and implementation on flight computers, navigation sensors, and other remote hardware
    • Develop strong relationships with consultants, contractors, and other relevant partners


    • 10+ years of experience working in safety-critical environments, with some of that time being in a management capacity
    • Proficiency with C++
    • Experience developing safety critical software and their respective standards
    • Familiarity with diverse tools and technologies used for the development, testing and analysis of DO-178C software
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills
    • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience developing software in the aviation, aerospace, medical device verticals
    • Experience working on software for Flight Control Systems
    • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink
    • Experience with modeling tools/certification (DO-331)
    • Experience with embedded development, real-time operating systems
    • Experience with serial data busses such as RS-485 and CAN
    • Familiar with NASA’s open-source core Flight System (cFS)
    • Experienced with ARM-based microcontrollers (STM32 or PIC)
    • Comfortable with CMake build tools
    • Experience with VxWorks 7
