We are seeking a Lead Laser Weld Cell Operator to take ownership of running an automated welding cell for the primary structural components of our airships. The welding cell itself features an impressive coordination of robots, the art of laser welding titanium, and the complex nature of aerospace parts. We are looking for someone excited about aerospace, automation, pushing new technologies, and helping grow our cutting edge LTA manufacturing operations while setting the bar for aerospace production.
The Lead Laser Weld Cell Operator will primarily be responsible for running the weld cell operation of flight-grade aerospace structural parts, but will also help with process development and prototyping, be responsible for all maintenance and calibrations, and assist in training of future cell operators. We are looking for someone to own this beautiful robotic cell. This position will work closely with engineers and cross-disciplinary teams in conducting various aspects of production, prototyping, testing, and day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities
- Operating a 5-robot-coordinated laser welding system for the production of flight-grade titanium aerospace structural components
- Conducting tests for the purpose of process development
- Working with engineering teams to verify, improve, and/or develop automation programs
- Perform detailed calibration procedures to ensure proper operation of welding cell
- Manage and perform all maintenance related tasks on welding cell
- Implementation of any technology upgrades to the cell over time
- Completing production documentation
- Working in a fast-paced environment tackling evolving challenges
- Become proficient in titanium laser welding and knowledgeable of stringent inspection criteria
- Enforce safety protocol for welding cell area
- Training future operators
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of coordinate systems and spatial geometry in CNC or robotic applications
- Experience with metrology equipment
- Experience programming/operating automated equipment or machinery (industrial robots, CNC’s, etc.)
- Hands-on mechanical and/or electrical integration, assembly, manufacturing, or prototyping background
- Competency reading and interpreting engineering drawings
- Experience with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD programs
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and provide feedback
- Technical communication skills, preferably past experience with engineers
- Troubleshooting aptitude, attention to detail, and safety consciousness
Preferred Qualifications
- Welding background, preferably in aerospace applications
- Training or experience with Fanuc or similar industrial robots
- Laser operations and safety experience
- Previous lead role experience

$40 - $45 an hour
