ABOUT THE LUCAS MUSEUM OF NARRATIVE ART
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art believes in the power of illustrated stories to connect us. With a growing collection that encompasses artworks from across cultures, places, times, and mediums, including paintings, sculptures, murals, photography, comic art, book and magazine illustrations, and the arts of filmmaking, the museum will explore narrative art’s potential to prompt questions, invite opinions, inspire community, and move people to think about the impact of images on our world.
 
Co-founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the Lucas Museum was designed by renowned architect Ma Yansong of MAD Architects with Stantec as executive architect and is under construction in Los Angeles’s Exposition Park. An 11-acre campus with extensive new green space designed by Studio-MLA will embrace the museum’s 300,000-square-foot building, which will feature expansive galleries, two state-of-the-art theaters, and dedicated spaces for learning and engagement, dining, retail, and events.

POSITION SUMMARY
 
The AV Support Engineer is responsible for building and supporting the Lucas Museum’s AV systems throughout the museum campus and any other museum-related locations. This involves proactively working with technical and non-technical staff alike and supporting AV centric areas like the theaters, learning spaces, conference rooms, event spaces, galleries and various other public and staff areas that have A/V technology and related lighting requirements.
 
This role will coordinate staffing needs for programming and events, as well as interface with technology vendors to coordinate room maintenance, upgrades and other staff or guest needs. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Promote high performance and continuous improvement
    • Assist in developing vision and strategy for AV technology across all museum areas
    • Oversee installation, maintenance, and upgrades of AV equipment
    • Ensure network security for AV components
    • Manage relationships with partners, integrators, and vendors
    • Oversee event and meeting support, including large events and vendor coordination
    • Assist with gallery AV deliverables and provide input on technologies and protocols
    • Collaborate with integrators on CMS workflows and AVL controls and create workflows
    • Collaborate with integrators and project teams on general maintenance and monitoring as well as AV support

QUALIFICATIONS

    • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 
    • (Preferred) Bachelor’s degree in AV Engineering, or a related field or 10 or more years working in an AV role
    • 5 or more years overseeing A/V technology
    • Museum, cultural attractions, or public venue experience is highly desired
    • Experience managing technology related construction
    • Experience with contract negotiations with vendors and suppliers 
    • SKILLS
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build consensus implementing technological change
    • Strong business acumen and excellent judgment regarding competing priorities  
    • Extremely well organized with excellent time management, follow up skills, and strong customer service skills
    • Highly attentive to details and accuracy
    • Self-motivated individual with high initiative, resourcefulness, and the ability to work well independently 
    • Team orientated, willing to pitch in and assist other staff as needed
    • KNOWLEDGE
    • Expert in A/V technology including displays, projection, conferencing equipment and audio systems  
    • Expert in dealing with vendors including RFPs / RFIs, negotiating contracts, POs and invoicing and overseeing project implementation and support
    • Ability to navigate working in and supporting various audio-visual spaces (Theatres, Galleries, Event Spaces, Classrooms and Conference Rooms etc.) 
    • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse constituencies and successfully lead multiple simultaneous projects   
    • Demonstrated ability to identify root causes of technological faults and be hands-on  
    • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, with both technical and non-technical constituencies
    • Knowledge and experience in the following technologies:

    • QSYS Control or equivalent (Crestron, Extron)

Salary and titles will be assigned commensurate to the successful candidates’ education and experience. An attractive compensation package will be offered to the successful candidate(s).
