At Madrigal, we are committed to transforming treatment for patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). NASH will soon become the leading cause of liver transplantation in the U.S., but there are currently no approved medications to treat the disease.
Madrigal’s lead candidate, resmetirom, is a once daily, oral, thyroid hormone receptor (THR)-β selective agonist that is designed to target key underlying causes of NASH in the liver. Positive results from the first of two Phase 3 clinical trials of resmetirom in NASH were announced in January 2022; and results from a second Phase 3 clinical trial in December of 2022. We are excited to announce NDA Acceptance and Priority Review with an assigned Prescription Drug User Fee Act date of March 14, 2024 for Resmetirom for the Treatment of NASH with Liver Fibrosis.

It is essential for the commercial team to have an in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of the resmetirom program and developments in NASH, as we prepare to answer the needs of the patients and healthcare providers we hope to serve with the approval and launch of resmetirom in the U.S.
Opportunity and Summary of Position:
The Sr. Manager, Trade Operations is responsible for managing 3PL (Third Party Logistics) operations within Madrigal’s Market Access and Trade team, and supporting SP (Specialty Pharmacy) and SD (Specialty Distribution) activities across the channel. The Sr. Manager collaborates with key internal stakeholders including Patient Access, Supply Chain, Finance, Data Analytics, and Quality Management to ensure order-to-cash and finished goods distribution readiness for launch. Additionally, the Sr. Manager engages external stakeholders (e.g. 3PL, SP, and SD’s) in day-to-day program operations and tracking of KPI’s to ensure contractual obligations are meeting/exceeding obligations. This position reports to the Executive Director, Trade and Specialty Distribution
Acquire and maintain deep understanding of NASH disease state, resmetirom clinical data and commercialization strategy
Lead the execution of 3PL (Third Party Logistics) distribution readiness in preparation for launch, and oversee post launch order-to-cash and distribution operations
Coordinate with supply chain to manage product shipment logistics, inventory levels, and other activities related to distribution; act as the point person with the trading partner buyers and customer service; drive effective operations with SP / SD stocking, identifying areas of opportunity and efficiencies; provide smooth logistics, positive customer experience and effective issue resolution
Collaborate with 3PL to manage daily orders from trading partners, ensuring order volumes are appropriate relative to SP and SD DOH (days on hand)
Review customer inventory levels for Resmetirom orders via 3PL Portal and internal inventory reports; monitor trends and provide timely demand vs. supply analysis for areas of concern with customer and/or product inquiries
Develop and disseminate sales and distribution-related reports, and partner with internal operations and data analytics teams to continuously evaluate and analyze vendor performance relative to goals and objectives
Support the Director, Specialty Trade Operations with SP and SD operational activities to ensure rapid processing of Rx’s through the distribution and dispensing channel
Facilitate Quarterly Business Reviews (QBR’s) and other meetings with 3PL, SP’s, and SD’s; prepare all materials, communicate expectations to vendors, and continuously drive performance while identifying key insights to incorporate into strategic planning efforts
Collaborate with the Director, Specialty and Trade Operations to develop and communicate key messages to internal and external channel partners
Partner with the Director, Specialty and Trade Operations to oversee operational plans, project budgets, expenses, and timelines
Create and maintain necessary policies, procedures, and business rules for all distribution programs
Consistently deliver measurable business outcomes based on program-level key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide timely customer-level reporting to leadership
Consistently deliver outcomes with cross functional impact, tackle projects with increased complexity, and influence change management to operations function across internal teams
Ensure the highest level of ethics, quality, and compliance by demonstrating in depth knowledge of laws that govern market access and channel activities
Conducts all activities in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations and company policies
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Business preferred
7-10+ years of related experience in the biopharma industry with a proven, consistent history of high performance in a broad range of operational roles
5+ years of biopharma industry customer/vendor management experience strongly preferred
5+ years of experience managing an outsourced 3PL distribution function required
3+ years of experience supporting specialty pharmacy networks and operations required
Experience in specialty distribution operations preferred
Ability to develop insights from data trends to improve program performance
Experience with pre-launch drugs and new product launches preferred
Ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team and in an environment of rapid change
Experience in working in a start-up environment and building from the ground up is preferred.
Excellent written, organizational, verbal, presentation, and communication skills a must
Proficient in MS Office products including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
Travel (approximately 10%)
