Scientist I, Cas Biochemistry

Mammoth is seeking a Scientist I with expertise in protein-nucleic acid biochemistry to join its Discovery team. Discovery is responsible for identifying and developing novel CRISPR-associated (Cas) nucleases for genome editing and diagnostic applications. This role will focus on nuclease development for editing applications.

The successful candidate will contribute towards Mammoth’s efforts to develop Cas nucleases for genome editing applications. The Scientist I, Cas Biochemistry will be situated downstream from nuclease discovery and will use a variety of approaches to design and characterize engineered Cas effectors for improved or altered function.


    • Characterize Cas effectors with biochemical assays
    • Develop and implement assays to detect and evaluate various biochemical activities
    • Design and prepare protein, RNA and DNA reagents
    • Document experimental results in laboratory notebooks 
    • Present experimental results at internal meetings
    • Other duties as assigned


    • PhD or Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of industry experience
    • 5 years of protein-nucleic acid biochemistry experience in industry or academia


    • PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field
    • Deep expertise in purifying and assaying proteins that interact with nucleic acids
    • Experience with both enzymatic assays for catalysis and substrate binding 
    • Experience developing and executing NGS assays
    • Laboratory automation experience (eg. liquid handlers, plate readers, automated colony pickers)
    • Experience with mammalian tissue culture
    • Familiarity with CRISPR-Cas and / or DNA repair literature
    • Computer and scripting skills (Benchling, Geneious, JMP, SQL, R, python)
