The Director of Finance at Marguerite Casey Foundation (“the Foundation”) will play a critical role in the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the organization’s operations and ensure that the Foundation stays compliant in its practices. The position will oversee all financial and accounting functions and establish the policies and procedures for sound management of the Foundation’s financial resources. The Director of Finance is someone we can count on to manage the Foundation’s accounting and related reporting functions, coordinate the preparation of our audit and 990 tax returns, effectively manage a small team, and oversee our efforts to mitigate financial risks.  

They will also assist the President & CEO and VP of Finance & Investments in maintaining ongoing communication with the Foundation’s Board of Directors with regard to financial and investment matters. This full-time position is based in Seattle, WA, or may work remotely. It reports to the VP of Finance & Investments and is exempt under the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act.

What You Can Expect

    • Own the Foundation’s accounting and reporting related functions and maintain all financial records
    • Coordinate preparation of annual audit and 990 tax returns
    • Oversee financial risk mitigation efforts
    • Manage and develop our Accounting Specialist and maintain a strong partnership with an outside controller
    • Serve as primary contact for Foundation’s banking managers, auditor, external controller, and tax preparer
    • Work closely with the VP of Finance & Investments and the CHRO on an annual budget process that supports and advances our mission

    • Research and recommend new and updated financial, internal control, and accounting policies for adoption by the Foundation and develop the Finance’s department policy and procedure manual

You should consider applying if you:

    • Have a BA in accounting, finance, or a related field. Bonus if you have an active CPA license or equivalent knowledge and experience.
    • A minimum of 10 years with broad financial experience in the non-profit sector and experience in foundation or endowment financial practices and managing finances of an organization that has two distinct entities within it, 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4). 
    • Have experience with cloud-based accounting systems, preferably Sage Intacct, and have excellent accounting skills and knowledge of GAAP and applicable laws and regulations.
    • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
    • Have an ability to translate financial concepts and effectively collaborate with colleagues that do not have finance backgrounds.
    • Enjoy working both independently and collaboratively.
    • Have experience managing others, including developing their skills and consistently providing feedback. Are able to prioritize against competing demands for your time and communicate tradeoffs and stay organized to meet deadlines, even in high-paced situations.

Working Conditions

    • Hybrid & Remote Work  - This position is open to candidates nationally and across time zones. The Foundation has a headquarters in Seattle, WA, and provides a hybrid option of two days a week in the office for those based in the area.  
    • Physical Demands of the Job - Constant computer work that may require repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands. Occasional bending, gripping, pulling, collating, walking, and filing; occasional lifting, (under 20 lbs) which may require the use of carts; constant seeing and hearing. Occasional travel by auto, air, or train.

$190,000 - $240,000 a year
The starting salary range for this position is $190,000-$240,000 annually.
