Position Summary:
The Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant (LDTC) functions in the school environment as an educational diagnostician, Case Manager, instructional programmer, Child Study Team member, educational consultant and instructional leader. The LDTC ensures that students receiving special education services achieve academic success across all subjects, as measured by achievement of IEP goals, benchmark assessments and grades, and state exams.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drive student achievement for students receiving special education services.
- Serve as a member of the Child Study Team in the assessment of, educational planning for, monitoring of, and re-evaluation of students in need of special services.
- Collaborate with teacher(s) to develop IEP that are appropriate to each classified student's needs and consistent with the basic educational plan determined by the Child Study Team in accordance with NJAC6A:14 guidelines.
- Act as a liaison between school and families as the primary contact for assigned cases; serve as case manager for selected students, including:
- Monitor compliance and effectiveness of IEPs through observation, review of records, staff conferences and assessment; make recommendations for adjustments where needed.
- Provide effective pre-referral intervention strategies to instructional staff & effectively support the Response to Instruction & Intervention (RtII) and Intervention and Referral (I&RS) program
- Serve as the liaison between the student and other professional service providers (other Child Study Team members, teachers, speech, occupational, and physical therapists, therapeutic support staff).
- Provide support for instructional staff through consultation, observation and demonstration for implementation of effective instructional strategies and materials for differentiation to meet student needs.
- Conduct or provide staff development sessions and educational programs for parents to promote an understanding of learning concepts and to increase competency in dealing with problems in learning, behavior and adjustment.
- Responsible for ensuring school is in compliance with all state and federal law governing special education compliance.
o Coordinating development, monitoring, and evaluation of IEPs.
o Scheduling reevaluation and review meetings per code guidelines.
o Maintaining deep knowledge of each student’s needs and program.
o Ensuring compliance with special education procedures and safeguards.
o Overseeing transition planning processes.
Qualifications:
- Ability to assess, analyze and classify students’ learning differences.
- Strong knowledge of NJ special education regulations and compliance policies/procedures, NJAC 6A:14.
- Strong knowledge of inclusive special education practices and instructional strategies for special education students.
- Ability to plan and facilitate delivery of programs for children with learning differences.
- Results-driven, flexible, and committed to student success. Belief in the Mastery Schools’ mission and
- instructional model.
- Strong communication and analytical writing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including parents and other team members.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree from an accredited graduation school required
- At least five years of excellent teaching experience, with strong special education background
- Must Hold a valid New Jersey Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant certification (LDT-C)
- Child Study Team experience required
Other Requirements:
- Ability to physically perform the essential duties of the role as outlined above, and to work in the environmental conditions required, such as traveling to network campuses, monitoring and interacting with students, in-person facilitation of trainings, etc.;
- This role may require frequent travel between multiple locations. Reliable transportation is essential to fulfill job responsibilities.
