Position Summary:
The Regional Truancy Manager (RTM) ensures that a cohort of Mastery schools network effectively implements the network’s attendance response systems. This role focuses on reducing chronic absenteeism and truancy through tiered interventions, cross-agency collaboration, and consistent family engagement. The RTM provides direct oversight and support to school-based staff and serves as the primary liaison to external partners, including DHS, family court, and community organizations. The goal is to address systemic attendance barriers and promote student re-engagement in academic life.
Reporting to the Senior Director of School Culture and works closely with the Assistant Director of Attendance and Compliance, this position collaborates with Network Support Team (NST) colleagues, school based personal, local district offices, and community partners to align of resources to meet the needs of our students and families (as it relates to attendance and family engagement).
Essential Job Functions:
- Support Attendance Coordinators across multiple campuses to ensure consistent implementation of Mastery’s multi-tiered Truancy Response Systems.
- Monitor and analyze attendance data to identify students in need of interventions and evaluate program impact.
- Conduct and coordinate home visits to engage families, assess barriers to attendance, and implement individualized support plans.
- Review and assess the quality of Student Attendance Improvement Plans (SAIPs) developed by school teams to ensure they are actionable, data-informed, and aligned with student needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all truancy-related interventions and case notes.
- Serve as liaison with Regional Truancy.
- Ensure compliance with truancy regulations and required reporting to state and district entities.
- Represent Mastery in truancy proceedings and coordinate escalated support as needed.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address structural barriers to consistent attendance.
- Provide regular updates to network leadership on attendance trends, challenges, and intervention outcomes.
- Complete required professional development and stay current with truancy-related policies and best practices.
- Other related assigned duties by manager.
Qualifications:
- A strong commitment to pursuing equity and improving educational outcomes in historically underserved communities.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including families, school staff and community partners.
- Deep understanding of truancy laws, attendance regulations, and student support frameworks in PA/NJ.
- Experience implementing attendance interventions and truancy prevention strategies.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet
- deadlines.
- Ability to analyze attendance data and develop data-driven action plans.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a compassionate, family-centered approach.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Tools); comfort using attendance data systems.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; including presentation and training facilitation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple school sites and navigate a dynamic workload.
- Comfort working in a dynamic environment where priorities may evolve in response to student needs or organizational goals, with clear communication and support.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; candidates with equivalent professional experience in social work, education, case management, or related fields will also be considered.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in attendance/truancy intervention, case management, or education.
- At least 2 years of experience overseeing attendance strategies, compliance programs, or family engagement initiatives preferred.
- Experience working with historically underserved school communities, community agencies, social services, or advocacy organizations in Philadelphia.
- Prior experience managing a caseload or coordinating services across agencies highly valued.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform essential functions on-site or remotely, including traveling to campuses; moving through office spaces; standing, walking, sitting for extended periods; speaking clearly; seeing and hearing at various distances; and using a computer and standard office equipment for up to two (2) hours at a time.
Other Requirements:
- This role will require frequent travel between multiple locations. Reliable transportation is essential to fulfill job responsibilities.
