About the Role:

The Platform Engineering team’s mission is to delight our engineers with simple solutions and to advance Hinge’s infrastructure operability. We do so by leading the design and implementation of infrastructure resiliency, expansion, observability, and security improvements. Our impact doesn’t stop there. We create and operate services that internal teams and customers depend on. As Hinge forges towards a global product offering, we will focus on building the next generation of our Platform. Some initiatives and problem spaces on the horizon are establishing a global multi-region architecture, mitigating third-party risk(s), and delighting engineers with tools and solutions that increase their velocity.

Platform Engineering is a crucial cross-functional team that collaborates closely with all engineering disciplines at Hinge. Our work is challenging and impactful in improving the engineering experience. We are searching for a seasoned and highly motivated Platform Engineer to join our team in solving some of our complex problems in simple ways.

Responsibilities

    • Inspire technical direction in a variety of problem spaces, notably global databases, sharding and partitioning,
    • Lead and contribute to initiatives that improve our infrastructure, observability, security, internal tooling and orchestration,
    • Design, build and maintain global, highly available, low-latency infrastructure to service the needs of our customers, 
    • Partner with teams to improve performance, scalability, reliability and observability of our databases,
    • Has a stewardship mentality towards performance and reliability of infrastructure and takes ownership of solving problems as they arise,
    • Contribute to the creation and refinement of documentation of technical initiatives, postmortems and uphold good knowledge sharing practices,
    • Impart your domain expertise theoretically and practically,
    • Join the Platform Engineering on-call rotation.
    • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

    • Demonstrated proficiency in implementing distributed relational database architectures, sharding and partitioning,
    • Experience building global multi-region infrastructure, services, databases and storage,
    • Expert in building and troubleshooting large-scale distributed production infrastructure in AWS or GCP,
    • Advanced knowledge in cloud infrastructure services including IAM, compute, networking, storage, databases, streaming services,
    • Extensive experience in implementing, configuring and optimizing Kubernetes, Docker and Terraform,
    • Experience in on call rotation and responding to incidents,
    • Has expertise in many or all of the following: Terraform, Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, Go (or similar), Postgres, Argo CD, Kafka, security best practices.
$213,000 - $255,500 a year
Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary range is reflective of a position based in New York City. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
